Mike. Some people think Facebook is the whole world and if it's not on there it can't be true or real. Steve (that's not on Facebook) Your doing a great job Mike keep up the good work

Hear hear Mike! Long live this great site - and thanks!

Soul source is the single biggest factor in re-igniting my passion for Northern soul and for that I thank you. I think I have learned more about my favourite records and artists and heard more new stuff in the past couple of months thanks to the brilliant people who come on here than in 36 years of being into it, not to mention some great advice from these knowledgeable people.

Hardly use FB now anyway. Thanks again.

What's Facebook? I personally don't need it, whatever it is.

For work I have to use a web based site every day called Sales Force.....It ain't anywhere near as slick or informative as Soul Source! Boss made the mistake of giving me an ipad the other week and it's fair to say Soul Source gets more visits from me than the one I'm supposed to be on!

Keep up the good work.

I use Facebook a lot but this site is always my first port of call when online and always will be.  2 different sites I use for different reasons but because I have many soul friends on Facebook and there is a few soul pages it has a slight common ground...

i have been noticing Soul Source getting a bit of a battering last couple of years by quite a few people and most ain't even members on here or just silent members yet still have nothing but dislike for here.  Tbh its been pissing me off so I've been standing up for good old SS and singing its praises and always will as I feel they are slagging me off too if that makes sense.

My only gripe about SS is events  :(  I have never liked or got use to it since it was changed from how it used to be and I know many others feel the same too as many now feel the best way to look and to advertise events is on Facebook.

Apart from that if Facebook disappeared of the face of the earth tomorrow it wouldn't bother me much but if Soul Source disappeared I wouldn't know what to do with meself

long live Soul Source and all the know it all serious take a chill pill chin scratching soul police up their own arse argumentative soulies that post on here like me  :hatsoff2:

Use Facebook a lot , some good some trash...mainly to keep in touch with old mates and footy banter...

I agree with Bearsy, FB is good fun sometimes and one of the reasons for me is its a great source of old photos from people I know and also don't know (Gethros "where are they now" page in particular)

Soul Source is still my no1 port of call though and is unrivalled for info on this great scene and music of ours

I also think the events section is its one downfall though, nowhere near as good as it used to be but its not the end of the world

Mal,

I wish you'd let me know these type of things.

There are guidelines for Sales but I don't stipulate exactly how ads should be laid out.

Deals are between members.

I noticed an ad today with no grading or guarantee as to refund if buyer not happy.

As a buyer I just ignore them.

However if you [or other members reading this] do get problems with such let me know, particularly where recently joined.

No contest for me. I been listening and dancing to soul music for over 40 years. I learn something new most days on Soul Source. Folk on here are knowledgeable and helpful. Facebook? Not so good.

Never been on facebook, but never off SS, keep up the good work.

Soul Source is still the best particularly when it comes to information and is still my first port of call.  Facebook has its uses and is probably better for promoting your event as you can get your promotion over to a larger group of people, many who have no interest in the collecting side of the scene.  FB is more social but there are some great groups, Gethro's already stated and for me the Stafford one.

Thanks to Mike and the mods for the great work they do.

Does everything always have to be a contest?  I use both - dip in and out of both.  Both have their faults - hate it on here when people post under an alias and make no attempt to identify themselves.   But for sure I don't want to know what people are having for their tea,  their wife's dress size or their shopping for kitchen appliances!  :o)

Not really a contest for me - though I am on FB I only log on to delete all the notifications! Soul Source - well, whenever I turn the laptop on, I pop in to see what's going on.

And don't even get me started on how much knowledge the members of this site have between them! I wish it had been around when I was still collecting that's for sure.

As has been said already keep up the good work and thanks for all the effort it must take to keep it running.

best,

R

I'm happy enough. Wish I could drop the 99 out of my user name - I'm Peter, just the one.

I am a human being - not an ice cream.

:(

Peter

Peter, there's hundreds and thousands of Peters, but only one Peter99.  Do you want a flake in that, young man?

I probably spend an equal amount of time on both. Not into all the Facebook thing as a rule but tend to go on there just for the soul related groups where I can interact with folks that share my soul music interest ie Sweet & Deep, Seriously Soulful, Crossover etc, also pop into Gethro's "Where Are They Now" group for a bit of nostalgia. So many soul groups on Facebook that I just don't bother with, same as they're are so many threads on SS that I don't bother with.

Enjoy learning about and listening to tracks that are "new to me" and enjoying again others that I'm more familiar with. Also enjoy putting others of a similar ear onto stuff thats "new to them" as well.

So for me it's not a question of which one's best, more a case of I enjoy what "for me" is the best of both

Not enrolled in Facebook, I leave that to the female members of the family.  Use LinkedIn for professional networking, but probably only visit it once a week, unlike SS which is a daily ritual.

I use both but for knowledge and level of debate it's here every time.

I've unjoined most northern soul groups on face book as the level of discussion on say I went to Wigan casino or northern soul groups are in the main lower common denominator and mainly the same oldies posted every time. There's the odd knowledgeable member but often shouted down, sometimes by idiots who can't string a sentence together. I found it infuriating and cannot believe many were on the same scene as me.

Where FB is good is for having tune offs with your mates, the Stafford group and turning non soul friends onto records.

SS comes in for some flack on FB sometimes but against mainly by those who i assume dont have the gumption to join in the debates, the strength of SS is that it is moderated; these FB groups don't seem to be hence the buffoonery

I'm on both, but if I came off of facebook tomorrow it wouldn't worry me, can't say the same about Soul Source.

Let's be honest, in the main facebook is boring and I don't think I've ever seen so much twaddle (apart from the daily Mail) in any one place at any one time. If I get asked to play another stupid game.... :)

If I'm looking for somewhere for us to go, I always go to soul source, if I want any info, always go to soul source, if I want to take part in a discussion, soul orientated or otherwise it's always soul source. If I want to see how many time Nigel from Chatham had a sh*t today, then I might go to facebook :) If I want to read how to do the KoKo, or the KTF then it's facebook, but having put my left leg in and my left leg out, I've found neither are for me ;)

Soul Source still coming out on top for me

There are some good and interesting affiliated groups on facebook amidst the cats that look like Hitler.

There are general/freebasing sections here on Soul Source, but by and large it's 'all about the soul' to name check the main discussion forum on this fine site. That forum, the fantastic 'Look at Your Box' and the exciting Sales related forums are unique and there is nothing else quite like them on the internet.

This site, it's Admin's, Moderators and of course members are special and that is the key reason for our success and long may it continue.

the fantastic 'Look at Your Box'

Yes, truly fantastic but with the worst name for a forum of all time I reckon...

collectors corner would have been better than Look At Your Box.

lol, I remember a Mod of that section with 'moderator look in your box' under his avatar.. Our own people couldn't get it right.

I dunno, maybe 'Look At Your Box' may not be the best title, but 'Collectors Corner' or sim and you'd get people waffling on about song sheets and shit like that. At least with the 'Box' it's a forum about what's in that box - namely vinyl, you dig?

Whilst FB is useful, Soul Source is always the first port of call for soul.

Have to say FB also has fascists and nut jobs who refer to Soul Source members in derogatory terms. They can be very tedious.

The coolest thing about Soul Source is just scanning through a thread, then without warning BOOM! a post from Lorraine Chandler…. LORRAINE CHANDLER!!!

…and shooting the sh*t with the very nice Peter Nice.

Weirdly the people on the FB group I go on don't seem to be interested in much discussion. There are stunninng photos on there but its hard to get much historical context for them. I reckon they might find my interest in the details odd and possibly a bit boring

No I wasn't seriously suggesting Collectors Corner but even that is better than LAYB.
