Paddy Ferry Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Just seen one in sales the Charles Diamond one, and I know there is the rare version but are there any other versions or boots, sorry if it's been done before.
Pete S Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Just seen one in sales the Charles Diamond one, and I know there is the rare version but are there any other versions or boots, sorry if it's been done before. Charles Diamond is the same as Inspirations basically, it's a re recorded vocal, equally as good as the original. We just called that pink label one a 'pressing' but nowadays it would be described as 'an official reissue'. I don't think it ever came out again, and there are only one or two original copies of the first version. Magnificent record. 3

Thanks for that, I have one that's on an orange Breakthrough and I assume it's a boot but can't find any info on it.
Ian Dewhirst Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 The only original I ever saw of this was Colin Curtis's copy. A single-sided test-press with a full orange label I seem to recall. Did any others ever come to light? Ian D
Popular Post Godzilla Posted March 13, 2014 Popular Post Posted March 13, 2014 Thanks for that, I have one that's on an orange Breakthrough and I assume it's a boot but can't find any info on it. Have you considered the possibility that you may be colour blind? Hint: if most lipstick also looks orange there's a good chance you are 4
Wiganer1 Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 ted massey has an orange issue - he played it when i double decked with him at prestatyn, every record he put on i though god how am i gonna follow that !!! 2
John Benson Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I guess the question about the orange copy is more related to the artist, if it's credited to The Inspirations, it's original. If it's Charles Diamond (and the label is orange) then I can't be sure as I've only seen those on a pink label. Has anyone got a scan of the Charles Diamond release with an orange label? 1
Patto Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I wish more DJs would play the Charles Diamond version out, its fantastic and the instrumental is great.Think the last time i heard it was at a Brid weekender.

What I meant to say was how about we swap my pink one and some cash, say twenty quid, for your orange boot...? 1
Paddy Ferry Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 (edited) That's the version I've got but not that label, it's the same as the second one. Edited March 13, 2014 by Paddywack
Ted Massey Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 just listened to the reissue and its piss poor to the original I am biased thou lol
Paddy Ferry Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 I prefer the Charles Diamond version. 2

Arthur Fenn Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Arthur did you find a copy when with Sam, but it was his day for first pick? Or was that something else Sam was there Rick, but luckily for me I had first pick that day 8-)
Prophonics 2029 Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 And Mick Smith's copy and that's it. I thought an acetate went through eBay a few years ago as well as the last one?.
Dennisoul Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 (edited) . The 5 records in this pic were Kenny Burrells before he sold up Edited March 14, 2014 by Dennisoul 1
Iancsloft Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Kev Barrett & Dave Skeen found a copy around 14 yrs ago from a shop I told them about in Kansas sold it to Tim Brown also Gilly had a copy that Tim Brown ended up with I think Ginger Taylor ended up with one of those..
Guest Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Thanks for that, I have one that's on an orange Breakthrough and I assume it's a boot but can't find any info on it. Any chance you could scan/post a pic Paddy?
Paddy Ferry Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 (edited) This is it and it's the Charles Diamond version, bought it off ebay a few years ago but other than that I don't know anything about it. Edited March 14, 2014 by Paddywack
pikeys dog Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 The vocal on the original version is painful. None of em could carry a tune in a bucket. No wonder it's so rare.

There's two possibilities here. One, it's an original. Two, it's the reissue with a good quality photocopy of the original label stuck on it.

I'll take possibility one please , if it's a photocopy Pete then it would fool me although that's not hard to do, like I say though the only others I've seen are the pink ones and just assumed that this was a boot/reissue of it.
boba Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 The 5 records in this pic were Kenny Burrells before he sold up i'm always leaving my 5-figure records strewn out against each other sleeveless like that too 2

Well here's a way to tell. Is there anything on side 2?
boba Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 if the pink record is a rerecording it's not really a reissue, it's the first time the material has been issued 1
Paddy Ferry Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 Well here's a way to tell. Is there anything on side 2? Instrumental.
Pete S Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Instrumental. So I was right - reissue with fake labels - it'll have a delta number (triangle) 102391
Paddy Ferry Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 So I was right - reissue with fake labels - it'll have a delta number (triangle) 102391 Yes it does, also has Gold Q - 1 the g looks like a six, aaaaah well at least I know now just seems odd that someone would go to all that trouble, thanks for your help.
Pete S Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 The vocal on the original version is painful. None of em could carry a tune in a bucket. No wonder it's so rare. Ah that's harsh, I just listened to the instrumental, beautiful, the second version, phenomenal, and the original version, superb. I think it's the same vocalist on both. And he does a great job on the original as well. Did I ever tell you about the time i 'found' him before anyone else did blah blah blah... 1
Dave Pinch Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Yes it does, also has Gold Q - 1 the g looks like a six, aaaaah well at least I know now just seems odd that someone would go to all that trouble, thanks for your help. is the label moulded over or does it appear to be stuck on.....have a little pick at it
Paddy Ferry Posted March 14, 2014 Author Posted March 14, 2014 is the label moulded over or does it appear to be stuck on.....have a little pick at it I would say it's stuck on, I'll bring it with me Dave to the next H & G you can have a look. 2
Andy Rix Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 The original version features Johnny Hendley on lead .... It has been discussed before but I don't have time to find the thread ... Version 2 is Charles Diamond a.k.a. Charles Perry Andy 2
Sjclement Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 005.JPG Here's the flip side. Someones taken the trouble to print (inst) on the original photocopy? Thats worth owning for the handicraft alone!! 1
Paddy Ferry Posted March 15, 2014 Author Posted March 15, 2014 Someones taken the trouble to print (inst) on the original photocopy? Thats worth owning for the handicraft alone!! It's a clever piece of handicraft if that's what it is.
Pete S Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I would say it's stuck on, I'll bring it with me Dave to the next H & G you can have a look. Going by his other two records, the Inspirations vocalist does not sound like John Hendley, Andy, to my ears anyway. I know you probably got that from the horse's mouth but doesn't sound like him.
