Hayden Road Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 How can I tell the difference between the 77/78 UK release and the current ones that are all over e-bay? Or is there no difference at all?
Pete S Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Well if it's been reissued it's not going to have the proper stamped details in the run off like on the 77 release.
John Benson Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Can't say as I'd noticed the UK release of this getting any other issue - or have I missed something? I'd have to check the ones you mentioned to see.

John Benson Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Hmm, I see what you mean, there's some 'suspect' copies out there. first glance I'd say the ones with no middles, like the US releases are dodgy, the original UK 45 was a solid centre, I don't remember seeing any dinked copies. If there are any, the big 'A' in the middle is bigger than the hole that would be left. I'm fairly sure that it would still be partially visible if it had been punched out for juke box use etc. The solid centre ones look OK to me. But if anyone knows more, do tell 1
John Benson Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 I thought that looked like the 70's release, this one looks suspect: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOBBY-HUTTON-LEND-A-HAND-WIGAN-CASINO-MONSTER-NORTHERN-SOUL-LISTEN/291096144803?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222006%26algo%3DSIC.FITP%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20202%26meid%3D5321532341809040480%26pid%3D100011%26prg%3D9063%26rk%3D0%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D200925531663
John Benson Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 Mr Smith himself asked about some of these a few years back... The plot thickens:
Guest Gogs Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 My copy (that i've always believed to be orig uk) has the small hole with large black "A", has a scratched run-out mark reading ABC-4206-A1 + ABC-4206-A2. Well if it's been reissued it's not going to have the proper stamped details in the run off like on the 77 release.
Guest Gogs Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Found this one on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Northern-Soul-BOBBY-HUTTON-LEND-A-HAND-Hear-/261413206473?pt=UK_Records&hash=item3cdd70f9c9 not sure if it's just a bad picture, but on scan of mine (below) you can clearly see 3 circles going through the letter "A"
Guest Gogs Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Over a hundred views since i posted and still no definite answer.
pikeys dog Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 The one you've posted above (with the ridges running through the A) is an original UK 70's issue. You can tell this because of the anti-slip milling to the vinyl around the label . The other, more recent ones don't have this. I wouldn't trust the large hole one as far as I could spit a watermelon - more so when you look at the sellers other items - all recent boots.... 1
Sjclement Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 The original UK releases will have a "grip" running around the outside of the lable
John Benson Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Just in case anyone is confused, 'anti slip milling' and 'a grip running around the outside of the label' - means the same thing 1
Kev John Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 The 1 with the anti slip grip is the original 77 release all others are dodgy boots imo Kev
Tony A Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 Just in case anyone is confused, 'anti slip milling' and 'a grip running around the outside of the label' - means the same thing I was thinking that also John. 1
