stewmac Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 My copy has the 45rpm in small type & is machine stamped , flip is hurry sundown is it a boot ?
Pete S Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 No if it's purple stock copy it's a reissue, official, from 1974-ish. If it's a white demo on vinyl, then it may well be a boot.
Dave Fleming Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 No it`s a early 70s legal reissue done by columbia, the 60sOrig have the big 45 on the label.
Pete S Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 It's purple what's it worth a tenner ? Yeah about that.
Chris L Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 What you also should know is that not all original copies have their matrix number stamped, the majority are scratched in. If you look patiently you should be able to pick up an original for about £35 - 45. Good luck. 1
Soulstu Posted March 7, 2014 Posted March 7, 2014 One thing about Soul Source, which by the way is THE site for us soul fans, is that the number of records that I have that I thought were originals are bloody boots! Including my white demo of IDWTDI. These were all bought from record stores in the 70s as imports, so like an idiot I thought they were legit. My heart sinks every time I see a post that asks if a record is a boot or not - cos what inevitably happens is...... yep there goes another one from £150 to a fiver! I think my northern collection is worth about a tenth of what I thought it was once I joined. Hang on to that lovely purple label even if it is second issue - I wish I had one, at least it's real. 2
Guest Soultown andy Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Not forgettin dutch epic or british Columbia, both very affordable and the Columbia demo far more desireable .
Only Dreaming Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Hurry Sundown is my favourite L Richard track Dave 2
Chris L Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Does anyone have a 100% original white US Okeh demo ?
Chris L Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I've got a white label test pressing of it. Looking for someone who has this.
Amsterdam Russ Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Looking for someone who has this. Little Richard.JPGLittle Richard1.JPG Yes, I read all the posts and was just contributing to the general discussion, not your post specifically 1
Chris L Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Yes, I read all the posts and was just contributing to the general discussion, not your post specifically Could you scan & post it ?
45cellar Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Another Soul Bowl purchase. I originally bought it for "I DON'T WANT TO DISCUSS IT" but love both now. "HURRY SUNDOWN" is a beautiful track 1
Chris L Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 a Nice Canadian Epic is nice as well! Always loved those 1
Chris L Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Another Soul Bowl purchase. I originally bought it for "I DON'T WANT TO DISCUSS IT" but love both now. "HURRY SUNDOWN" is a beautiful track I have 2, 1 vinyl and scratched matrix, 70s boot and one in styrene scratched matrix original and an issue ditto.
45cellar Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Always loved those Yes, always nice to find Canadian press of Okeh stuff
Amsterdam Russ Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Could you scan & post it ? Not much point. It's just a blank white label. Well, except for the sticker removal scuffs. Got four test presses off someone and he had to have gone and put stickers on every one saying what the track was. I think there was even a euro-sized circle with a capital A in it to show which were the A sides! Got two Little Richard's, a Five Du-Tones and a Jimmy Robins "Can't please you" - all with the same bloomin' stickers on. They came off all right, but at a cost to the labels underneath!
Dave Fleming Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) Does anyone have a 100% original white US Okeh demo ?Yes..... the same as the W/D scans with the digit..Dave f.... Edited May 28, 2014 by Dave Fleming
Mellorful Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 There may be one for sale on ebay for $80 (about £50) but the postage is $50, a few more $ and you could fly there and pick it up in person. I asked the seller whether the record is styrene or vinyl to remove any doubt about its legitimacy. 1
Chris L Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 a Nice Canadian Epic is nice as well! I guess they're even more rare than US Okeh, tougher to sell on though, I had 2 copies of Major Lance - You don't want me no more on Epic, hard to sell them.

Dave Fleming Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Looks like it will stay in the US with $50 postage to the Uk....

If it's any comfort I sold my IDWTDI on Ebay, listed a 1970s boot and I think I got about £25.00 for it. 1

I think it's better to know the truth, then you can learn from it, and maybe find an original of it sometime. Edited April 28, 2015 by Guest
