are well kept.

when djing in foreign shores whats the standard procedure

to make sure noboby does a runner with your prized box

of 45's you have taken over to dj with

i mean do you leave them in your hotel room when not playing out

leave them in the safe of the hotel

or do you make room for the sandwiches and carry it to the beach?

hope one of you well travelled dj''s can advise please

You must stop in posh hotels then if they have a safe :)

Whenever I've DJ'ed abroad I always take a very good padlock and chain with me in my luggage (They usually won't let you fly with it fastened to your box as hand luggage). Then when I get to the hotel I chain my records to the most immovable object in the room (Which is usually the plumbing somewhere.

I've seen you with your chain and box out and about Dave, very courteous of you to make sure no one nicks the table :):)

Said box might well be worth more than a top of the line Merx!

and they have trackers fitted. (Belt and braces and all that)

I use a manship box and they look a dead give away for a tempting robbery! might as well put a sign on it saying take me!!

One idea is to stand it on end, cover with a pretty floral throw + small doyle and a pot plant on the top.

Thats if your in a hotel with no safe facility?

Simple really, just copy e'm all onto CD then you can take e'm on the plane in your pocket & when going on't beach just slip e'm in't side of your thong thumbsup.gif

At what point (in terms of value of your tooons) will common sense prevail, and people start to CD-R them and use those..............I just know I'm gonna need my tin-hat here!!

Seriously for a moment, isn't it bonkers..............especially with the thieving I keep reading about, trips abroad as mentioned here, some of the incorrectly set-up decks they get played on............not to mention the state of your lovely little disks by the time all that talc's settled on them................ thumbsup.gif:lol: ...........you might as well give them a rub with some light abbrasive paper as well!!

I don't see a problem with burning them to CD-R.................as long as you can hold your head up high knowing full well you have the original copies of what you are playing.

I suppose it's about playing the real thing though, I understand that..............a bit crazy though, you have to admit.

Would you have a classic early Rolls-Royce and use it on an off-road course???? I think not.

Food for thought.............have a nice time wherever you're going...........sure your records will be fine.

Cheers,

Mark R

wouldnt advise taking them to the beach if temperatures are in the nineties, might end up with a box of melted plastic thumbsup.gif .

I assume you must be talking about general theft of items from hotels and not theft from events? I've dj'ed abroad loads of times and never felt theft was a threat, you're less likely to have your records stolen outside the UK than in it. more likely that everything will be trashed if you put the records in the hold of the plane, no matter what type of record box you use. baggage handling always find a way to destroy baggage even on the shortest flight, so make sure you take them on as hand luggage. if you are concerned about theft, speak to the promoters, there is always somewhere to lock them up safely i've found, as they usually want their records safe and sound as well, and they do go the extra mile to keep you happy usually.

I've never had a problem....I only take the 100 box - i hide that out of sight when checking in - under my coat on the floor normally....then I look like the box is really light and saunter through customs  squeeze the box under the seat in front (don't sit in the emergency row). When I get to the other end, the box is 'hidden' in the room....and never divulge your room number to anyone...otherwise you'd have to kill them :( I've dj'd in Italy, Spain, France, Germany and Austria and never had any problems (touching wood) Jo

But if you DJ abroad why not tell the air people or whoever look can i please take these on board with me have them somewhere safe as they are rare. As for hotels who would leave records abroad

In a hotel if the bos is not too heavy to cart i would be going everywhere with records not letting one out of sight apart from when on plane as they say you can't take that box with you.
