Posted March 4, 201411 yr Not sure if this has been on before but is new to me? Been watching "Soulpower" on Sky Arts 1,a 4 part series about the evolution of soul music.First one has been great, tracking it's roots back to Gospel,Blues etc.Well worth a watch. Cheers Martyn
March 9, 201411 yr Wigan Casino, Etta James, Soul Power and Dusty Springfield sounds like a good nights viewing .
March 10, 201411 yr ... but many, many mistakes. James Brown's "Please Please Please" is renamed "No No No", and when discussing Arethan Franklin's session in Muscle Shoals - which resulted in one song only - they don't show the Fame Studios but the old 3614 Jackson Highway Studio. For me the whole series was too restless, concentrating at times more on social and political matters than music, the songs were featured for only a few seconds and their choice of interviewees was peculiar. In general, it's always good when they make documentaries on our music, but I think that in this case we should ask an outsider, whether he learn much about soul music or not? Best regards Heikki
