Rodders22 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 When A promoter puts 100% Vinyl on his flyers, Is this to say that they don't play CDs Or play from Laptops or is the a bit of a deception from what they are playing. Rod
Guest Bearsy Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Its only deception if they play off of CDs or laptops if they say 100% vinyl only. If its because they play boots it's still not deception cos boots are on vinyl after all. Anyone that promotes a Northern Soul event knows the criac about vinyl boots etc etc and if they are playing boots knowingly and say its 100% vinyl then maybe they are trying to deceive people. It it shouldn't make any difference to the OVO brigade and a quick look and a bit of homework on the djs should help you decide to attend or not if that really matters to you. Saying that there are plenty of OVO brigade that moan like fook about boots being played but given half a chance they would dj at said venue anyway so morals and principles go out the window to satisfy their egos I have got to the stage where I won't go out for the sake of it and would rather stay in and wash my hair than suffer a night of shite djs playing off a shite system thinking they are the dogs danglies Staying in is the new going out lol
Rodders22 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) Bearsy, good response mate, I just seem to think that if someone puts 100% Vinyl on a flyer! They hope that would be enough to tempt New Soulies looking for an authentic venue to go to with Northern Soul Cred.Rod Edited February 28, 2014 by Rodders22
Guest Bearsy Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 If new soulies are looking for somewhere to go then don't even mention vinyl they wouldn't know or care as long as they can enjoy what's played. If your trying to convince old soulies then I wouldn't bother mentioning it either BUT if your trying to encourage OVO people only then I would put on Original VInyl only. there is no cred in northern soul or rare soul it's not a fashion its a passion and should be about the music. Its not about the clothes or cups and key rings or pretty venue its a dance scene that has been kept alive by driven and passionate soulies discovering new sounds form early 70s late 60s and there are still plenty still trying to find new tunes still. Get a good venue a good dance floor and good sound system and propa djs and try to put the best night on for your target crowd as you can and if its good they will come. Plenty of soulies don't give a shit what the playing format is they just say its in the groove that counts so they will turn up and dance to a jukebox on a carpet if told it was Wigan Casino reborn BUT if you want OVO soulies and "cred" for an event then get the djs with the records cos the jukebox brigade will come anyway even though all rare records are shit and there faves all just happen to be rare records but make sure you leave a dark corner vacant for the chin strokers and an office for the soul police and then you have cracked it. Promoting is easy you just need a thick skin and a dog to talk to about what set to play
Guest gordon russell Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 soon as anyone puts OVO........you know it,s a crap doo.........because a good doo.....it never enters their head that it,ll be anything other than proper records
Dr Good Soul Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 They should put 100% Original Vinyl If they play real ones Nothing worse than going out to hear a load of boots. when you could have stayed in and played your own real ones. Steve. 2
Mick Boyle Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 It means Put up and shut up If the DJ line up says Dirty Dave from Daventry or Bootleg Bob from Bolton Then don't go
Rodders22 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Steve, I think that's what I was getting too. The word ORIGNAL being the missing word. After putting charity events on for six years I wasn't to bothered what they played from, as long as we made money for the named charity's. But if I was to pay DJ's for none charity events I would expect the real deal as near as possible. My thoughts. Rod 1

Mark Bicknell Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 It means Put up and shut up If the DJ line up says Dirty Dave from Daventry or Bootleg Bob from Bolton Then don't go Behave, they are bloody nice blokes, clueless about records but top blokes the two of them lol
Guest Matt Male Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 It's pathetic, who gives a toss if it's vinyl if it isn't original vinyl? They may as well put, 'we play crappy boots, carvers and repros, please come along'. I'd rather go somewhere that played CDs and downloads than '100% vinyl'. At least the sound quality would be better.
Heisenberg Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 I think it means they only play vinyl, so nothing that's on styrene is allowed good point ! now where are the OSO-Nights ??
Rodders22 Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Matt, CDs and Downloads do have a place for sure, In your car or home. why would you want to play CDs at a Venue of a retro scene.
Mick Boyle Posted March 1, 2014 Posted March 1, 2014 Behave, they are bloody nice blokes, clueless about records but top blokes the two of them lol Hi Mark I would gladly pay my English Pounds to hear your set, I know Dirty Dave from Daventry and Bootleg Bob from Bolton will always be there but what can you do apart from stay at home. I think public floggings are not permitted anymore

That wasn't my point Rod. I'd play 100% original vinyl. I wouldn't play 100% vinyl, which means boots, repros etc... I'd rather a night played CDs than boots if they don't have the originals. Exactly, we're a retro scene, which is why we should play originals, not a carver done last week just because it's on vinyl. Edited March 1, 2014 by Matt Male

Rodders22 Posted March 1, 2014 Author Posted March 1, 2014 Hey Matt, Your bob on mate! Must have got wires crossed. Original doesn't have to be Rare or Expensive as you know, just think if DJs only played the real thing (British or American ) cheap or deer in sets,; how varied the music could be.Thousands to go at.
