Donkit Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I have 2 copiies of this 45, One is a light Pink label and has the scratched in matrix number 1373 - 1A which I believe is a counterfeit. As in John Manships Guide to Bootlegs, Conterfeits and Reissues. In it he says the original has the scratched in matrix number 1373 - 1E My problem is the Darker one of the two has a stamped circle with MR inside and then followed by scratched in BG. 1372 - 1D on Reach Out side, and stamped circle with MR inside and then scratched in 1373 - 1D on the Magic Potion side. Is this a reissue ? thanks Don
Pete S Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Can't see Magic Potion getting booted with reach Out on the other side. I think it was booted as a vocal b/w instrumental.
Donkit Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Can't see Magic Potion getting booted with reach Out on the other side. I think it was booted as a vocal b/w instrumental. Hi Pete, according to John's book it was ? cheers Don
Pete S Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Hi Pete, according to John's book it was ? cheers Don Must be true then 3
Soul-slider Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 'Magic Potion' was booted as the flip to 'Unsatisfied'. Didn't think 'Reach Out...' was booted? I have the pink one too and it's deffo kosher.
Pete S Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Can't see Magic Potion getting booted with reach Out on the other side. I think it was booted as a vocal b/w instrumental. Actually think it was on a maroon or brown Big Top label with Unsatisfied on B side, still can't see why a common chart record would be counterfeited
Pete S Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Lou Johnson 1.jpg Still think it's two different presses.
Donkit Posted February 26, 2014 Author Posted February 26, 2014 Still think it's two different presses. Do you think they are both ok then Pete ?
Dave Fleming Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 The one i have is a pink label styrene press, with the Monarch MR stamp and 1373-1D,delta # 48391-XA on Magic Potion side. Dave f.......
John Benson Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I have it on UK London, so have no problem with bootlegs! I can't actually remember noticing one though, "reach out" a great song in its own right, has never been in big enough demand to warrant booting. But as Pete says, if it's in the book, then it must be true
Pete S Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Reach Out For Me made number 74 on the Billboard pop charts, which is why I was sceptical about the need to bootleg it. 1
Prophonics 2029 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 (edited) Both Reach Outs from the same stamper. Edited February 27, 2014 by Prophonics 2029
Prophonics 2029 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I am sure I had a Gerrie Granger Breakdown west coast demo a while back.
stokesoulboy Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Mine is pink, boot matrix, but it looks right, print definition is spot on, not expensive or rare, so why boot it ?
Prophonics 2029 Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 (edited) I have Missery by The Dynamics that has AT in the dead wax, me Gerrie Granger has a Bell stamp and ABC distribution and 2 Monarch Loo's oooh and one with an LW mark. Edited February 27, 2014 by Prophonics 2029

DAVE K LOU J REACH OUT FOR ME DEMO.jpgMAGIC POTION DEMO.jpg Fudge me !! what a super-dupa copy
Chris L Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I have them on this EP, not sure if it's an early "original" or a later issued "original" ? I have to say that Lou Johnson is one heck of a singer and 'reach out' is a top choon but I do prefer Roy Hamilton's version. 1
Chris L Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 The one i have is a pink label styrene press, with the Monarch MR stamp and 1373-1D,delta # 48391-XA on Magic Potion side. Dave f....... Dave, I think anything under the 100.000 Delta matrix number 'usually' means it's OK. 1
Pete S Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Dave, I think anything under the 100.000 Delta matrix number 'usually' means it's OK. It's just an accurate way to date things. 90*** / 100*** are from 74 to 77
Only Dreaming Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Mine is pink, boot matrix, but it looks right, print definition is spot on, not expensive or rare, so why boot it ? I thought the same thing about my vinyl copy of Darrell Banks "Open the door to your heart" which was booted/counterfitted because it was so popular. Dave
Pete S Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I thought the same thing about my vinyl copy of Darrell Banks "Open the door to your heart" which was booted/counterfitted because it was so popular. Dave Never really had that situation with Magic Potion though. Massive popularity I mean. 1
Guest turntableterra Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 reach out was released around 1963 which, if pressed at monarch at that time, would give it a delta number of between 46000 and 49000. Dave says the number on the magic side is 48391 so it could be good. vinyl copies also have a stamp, not too dissimilar to a bed, pressed into the runout the same as the verve and some mgm records. great record btw
