Markw Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Awful lot of overplayed, overrated Motown too frankly. Anyone who's ever spent an afternoon or a long car ride with Simon Green from Swindon will know what I mean!!
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Marvin Gaye - Tear It On Down ("In the Groove" LP) David Ruffin - What You Gave Me ("Feelin' Good" LP) Four Tops - You Got To Forget Him, Darling ("Nature Planned It" LP) Supremes - Bad Weather (single only) ...all underplayed and under-rated, unless you're me... TONE ...oh yeah, and better than any of these - The whole Four Tops "Still Waters" album, especially the wonderful version of "Elusive Butterfly" which I now can't wait to get home from work to play, several times probably!!!!!! ..."Love Is The Answer", from the same album (and also on single) is a criminally underexposed dancer, too....
Sean Hampsey Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Marvin Gaye - Tear It On Down ("In the Groove" LP) David Ruffin - What You Gave Me ("Feelin' Good" LP) Spookiest Post ever for me Tony! As I'm scrolling down I immediately thought of these two gems and thought, YES!!, a chance to give Marvin & David a plug! Nearly fell off me keyboard when I saw your post! Played them both on a regular basis for the past 30+years, but never hear them otherwise. Superb recommendations! Also rate Four Tops - You Got To Forget Him, Darling Four Tops - Left With A Broken Heart Four Tops - Is There Anything I Can Do Stevie Wonder - Aint No Loving Supremes - You've Been So Wonderful To Me Temptations - Loneliness Syreeta - What Love Has Joined Together Miracles - Soulful Shack Miracles - Its A Good Feeling Tammi - Tears At The End Of A Love Affair Gladys Knight - He's My Kinda Fellow Gladys Knight - Since I Lost You Thelma Houston - Nothing Left To Give G C Cameron - I'm Gonna Give You Respect Brenda Holloway - I've Got to Find It All Indispensable! Craig W Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Another superb overlooked and so underplayed Supremes uptempo track. Some things you never get used to. Play this loud and listen to the lyrics. It's the same routine of getting up every morning And putting on a smile But underneath there's another person Who can't find a reason to make living worthwhile Ah, another day to get through Without the love that once was mine Sometimes I think my heartaches come to an end And then something brings them all back again Like wanting you and like having you I'll never get used to I've gotten used to not listing For familiar sounds you used to make Now I'm trying to get out of the habit Of calling your name first thing when I awake Look here ! It's like a child's first step I have to learn to walk all, all over again 'Cause you were always there if I should fall And now there's nobody else that I can call It's like wanting you and not having you I'll never get used to Lost in a cloud I think I caught a glimpse of you Blindly I rush to touch your hand, huh! To discover it's my mind Playing tricks on me again Tricks on me again Some things you never get used to Sometimes I think my heartaches come to an end And then something brings them all back again Like wanting you and like having you I'll never get used to It's wanting you and like having you I'll never get used to Look here ! Like wanting you and like having you I'll never get used to

Stateside Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 two more "I can't break the habit" - Martha & Vandellas (track 26) This track never lets up - from one of those Motown albums featuring unreleased tracks that came out in the 80's "Love (the lonely people's prayer)" - Edwin Starr (track 20) one of his lesser known mellow mid tempo items that is full of strings and a full compliment of backing singers, with Edwin's vocals searing over the top of them all - fantastic!! came out on Motown not Gordy26_Track_26.mp320_Track_20.mp3
Soulsmith Posted July 7, 2006 Author Posted July 7, 2006 Thanks for posting chaps. Really apppreciate mp3s/wavs as I have a really poor memory. Listings of song titles really don't do it for me.......one step away from swapping train numbers Col...

Stateside Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 I may have missed it but was this ever played anywhere - It comes off their "Easy" album which has California Soul on it. It has the same lyrics and tune(but not the same backing track) as "Your love can save me" by The Marvelettes but obviously has a slight change where they sing "only your love can save this poor heart of mine" Funny how you can have records in your collection that you don't discover for thirty odd years. Even dancing to the Marvelettes at Wigan in the 70's I never made the connection between the two tracks. Marvin & Tammi - This poor heart of mine04_This_Poor_Heart_of_Mine_Marvin_Gaye___Tammi_Terrell.mp3
