Guest Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Caught up with the BB King TV documentary last night. Got me wondering , has any BB King track been played over the years. I know a few of his tunes, quite like what I've heard but I can only , off the top of my head, think of "The Hurt" and I'm not sure if that was spun...any more ?
davidwapples Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Heartbreaker gets played occasionally when I get the chance 1
Benji Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 two from my collection: Paying the cost to be the boss, Heartbreaker. Both solid R&B worth a spin or two
Cunnie Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Heard Big Boss Man played around the Sheffield area a few times about 10 years or so ago.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaXpuLeKbuk

Geeselad Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 He did a cover of 'I cant please you' its on the mfp lp, not exactly northern but worthy of a listen. Excellent doc too, BB seems to be one of the few musicians that seem able to transend non secular and spiritiual music.
Tlscapital Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 excellent track thanks I have copy and paste the wrong thing. Here's the flip sound clip; 1
Ady Croasdell Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I play Bad Luck Soul an I Quit My Baby but as R and B dancers, I don't think he ever recorded a record that was more soul than blues did he? I ain't tried the ones above yet.

There is an ABC issue that is an instrumental of htp too, or is that what you mean? Edited February 25, 2014 by penny
Spacehopper Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 watched it too, great film......this rnb cheapie has had a couple of spins at ours https://youtu.be/5R6iWMl629I
Tlscapital Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Help the poor - what a great track. There is an ABC issue that is an instrumental of htp too, or is that what you mean? Yeah, maybe. heard it once and was put off by listening to it. It's a later cut (1971), maybe a live/gig recording of some sort with those endless twirling guitar solos. Nothing like this nitty gritty1964 studio recording.
Biggordy Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Another one that should be played in R&B rooms/clubs - and only £10 too.
Biggordy Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Also this great instrumental must surely have seen some R&B action? 1
Ady Croasdell Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I suppose it was inevitable with his vast output and that Help The Poor 45 is spot on early soul I slightly prefer the I Wouldn't Have It side. The Probe 45 is very good too and I didn't know Poontwangie though that's more R&B of course. No Motown influenced sides though the Probe one is in that area. Better Not Look Down is a great 70s soul style number with a killer line in the middle which I'll let you spot yourselves if you don't know it. 1
Guest Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Is it the line about a porcupine... I've been trying to think of the title of that track..use to make me smile
Guest Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 something about the queen of England... sounds familiar.. not heard it since about 1978...need to check you tube! I'm assuming it's the same song....cupid's arrows making BB look like a porcupine
Guest Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Glad I started this thread...hearing some fine tunes.
Ian Parker Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 (edited) something about the queen of England... sounds familiar.. not heard it since about 1978.. --------------------------------------------------------- " You better not look down " ref 'Poontwangie'. I have it, surprisingly, its from 1971, sounds much earlier Edited February 25, 2014 by IanP

Sunnysoul Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) B B KING Heartbreaker BLUESWAY (1967) Edited February 26, 2014 by sunnysoul
Sunnysoul Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 B.B King - I like to Live the Love (1973) In 1973 BB went down to the Sigma Sound Studios in Philadelphia and recorded this great Philly dancer. Turned out to be one of the bigest hits of his later career. 1
Guest Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Good version of Freddy North's "The Hurt" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwudux5aVAs

Guest Posted May 20, 2015 Posted May 20, 2015 Thought I'd bump this thread in tribute to the late B.B. King ,RIP
