Guest Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 I've got a copy of Jerry Butler I'm a telling You / I see a fool on Vee Jay with a solid center which plays at 33 1/3. Anyone know if that was usual in the early 60's for the label? Can't imagine it was. Also I've a Peoples Choice 45 on Veroneeca. Anyone any details on the label ? Thanks all - see some of you at Soul In The City next wednesday 3/11/04 Blatant plug , sorry Dave G
Guest taffy Posted October 27, 2004 Posted October 27, 2004 could be a juke box release, they released a lot of 45's and ep's in the early 60's for juke boxes that run at 33 1/3.
Geoff Posted October 29, 2004 Posted October 29, 2004 Don't know about the record you are referring to Dave, but there seems to have been an attempt to promote 33rpm EPs in the USA in the very early 60s. The Elvis Presley EP Flaming Star (from the movie) was 33 rpm, and actually made the USA top 20. Wasn't issued here in that format as far as I know. Not sure if there were many others. Don't see the point of issuing them at 33 rpm as 7 inch records. I remember there were were LPs issued at something like 16 rpm but they were speech I think.
