Pete S Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Just seen one for sale at £60 - is this right? I've got one I was going to list, NM, US Mercury, still in company sleeve. Sounds high to me.
Scotters Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 I've seen anywhere between £30 and £70 depending on condition. I think some prefer that 45 version with the sax, over the LP which doesn't have the horns, hence price gone up as more have looked for one. Maybe not relevant but I'm sure I read somewhere some time ago that Dee Dee Warwick never liked the 45 mix as it didn't really seem to allow her vocal take the lead. I tend to agree for what it's worth. I think you'd get £60 for NM in sleeve. 2

Mal C Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Big favorite of a certain Sydney Soul Sister, In fact they all became very animated when it got played....which is how I got to love this record, cost ten quid back then... malcolm
Pete S Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 This was in a box of stuff I'd listed before at £5 each about 18 months ago, no takers, was about to put it on Discogs for £5 when I noticed the only one on there was £60! 2
Mal C Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 (edited) Liza calls it 'Rainbow' and we have to play 'Emperor' with it every time... strange though changing tastes, I think you should get at least £45 for it Pete, Girls record for sure.... and if that makes me a girl, so then so be it... Mick Sway Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 I always remember Richard Searling rating this and playing it often on his CFOS Sunday Radio show. Those were the days, great Tune , though I'm surprised anyone would play it out. Best Mick 1
Keithg Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 I have a nice white US mercury demo bought it from Italy around a year ago for around £45,played it in a spot i did in Huddersfield at the end, a few months ago, great track especially with the sax,and played a lot by Richard Searling as Mick says a few years ago.I have the other version on an album too ... 2

Rupert Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Chris Anderson had it on his site the other day for £30
Agentsmith Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Chris Anderson had it on his site the other day for £30 correct..um'd and ah'd about buying it again, he who hesitates, as they say......great tune, got the lp but have to disagree.....single version miles better and huge at "the manor"
John Benson Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I have to disagree, for me the LP version is much better than the 45 But that could be due to the fact that that was the one I heard first - Canal Tavern in Thorne many years ago! A quick search reveals that I'm not alone either: https://mickeynold.blogspot.co.uk/2007/10/rainbow.html

Mick Sway Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 LP Version: 45: Must admit, never heard the LP version until now.
Pete S Posted February 24, 2014 Author Posted February 24, 2014 LP Version: 45: Must admit, never heard the LP version until now. Neither are very good. LP one is better but too loud. 1
Popular Post Steve Plumb Posted February 25, 2014 Popular Post Posted February 25, 2014 Neither are very good. LP one is better but too loud. ......in your opinion Pete? I think both versions are superb in their own right (imho) Cheers Steve 4
Pete S Posted February 25, 2014 Author Posted February 25, 2014 ......in your opinion Pete? Er...obviously 1
John Benson Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Dee Dee is one of my fave singers and I have almost everything she released, so I could be deemed to be biased. I wouldn't go so far as to say I dislike the 45 version, I like both for different reasons - but the album version just sounds better. Obviously that's just my opinion...
Guest Ivor Jones Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 While we're on the the subject of the 45, has anyone got a vinyl rather than styrene version of the 45… . I've never seen one, don't know if they exist, [maybe too early ?] but i"d love one. PMs welcome ! Superb record…...

You might like this John.. also got a very nice Aussie demo 'Funny How We Change Places' pretty rare 45 on Australian.. this could turn into a Dee Dee Warwick fest!! John Benson Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Same here Malcolm, my 'I Haven't got Anything Better to do' is also vinyl, but it does appear that "Where is that rainbow" is styrene - although it's not all that obvious like the 70's styrene 45s are. Nice one with the Australian demo too, I've just got 3 different US copies and a UK promo of it (!) I drew the line at that and decided not to go hunting every different countries release by her Although.. if any were to cross my path cheap enough, who knows
