Chalky Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Just compared scans with my Chimes and part of same set up. KOS says a divison of Lamarr, Chimes says MFD by Lamarr.
Guest kermack Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 presume same label....any additions 70 Dushons You Better Think It OverTake /These Chains (From My Heart) didn't this come out on Golden Gate as well, or have gone mad !!! Johnny
Steve G Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Yes on Golden Gate as well. DTE had about 9 or 10 releases - got em all tucked away and the Chymes and Chimes were both on the label, along with several General Crooks and a couple of other things that escape my fading memory at this time.

The others are: 71: The Chymes - My Baby's Gone Away/Where I Come From 73: General Crook - Gimme Some Parts 1 & 2 75: General Crook - What I'm getting Now And What I'm Used To Ain't The Same/Get Over 76: The Impalas - Think It Over (Vocal & Instrumental) 77: General Crook What Time It Is Parts 1 & 2 The Dushons 45 was also issued on Golden Gate 70 - presumably before DTE. Label was seemingly owned by Chicago arrenger Burgess Gardner and his brother Walter. (and I think Bunky Sheppard had a stake in it, too). The Lamarr label (Esquires' "Girls In The City" and two Star-Tels singles) was affiliated to it, too. All the releases came out between March 1970 and November 1971 - both labels! Enough, already? Ted Massey Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 I had never heard of the K of S so when i heard Chris Anderton had scored a big hit in the states 9 copies i think and sold them for £1500 each i thought i must get a sound clip of someone and Chalky came up with it. Is it just me or did someone make a mistake and add the 2 noughts at the end, i cant for the life of me see why there is all the hype
Jumpinjoan Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 (edited) Kings of Soul 'Your Love for Me' came out twice didn't it with a different b side? and is crap in comparison to the one that's being played. There was a thread about it on here a bit ago ... have had a look but can't find it .... any chance somebody could locate it please? Cos i'm crap! The thread was about a copy of the inferior version that was up for sale with no label on e bay .... just in case anybody feels compelled to be a love and find it. Thanks Edited July 4, 2006 by jumpinjoan

Chris Anderton Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Ted, There were actually 10 copies that Shifty and I found...sold 9 and kept one myself. I did`nt know the record when i found it but knew of it. I was`nt 100% with it to start with but after a few plays it really does get you. All our copies are gone now. They came from someone connected with the writer in Illinois. Joan, There was a version on ebay claiming to be different, it was mashed and went for about $500. I did`nt get to hear it but have it on good authority that it was different. Watch out for the single sided Demos....the wrong side of course!! Think I`ll be giving KOS a spin at Prestwich this Friday......... Chris

Chris Actually the "wrong side" is not bad as a 60s soul record - if you like 60s (as opposed to northern) soul. And if you catch my drift

I heard it Chris.... and it definitely was different.... sounded unfinished and had no 'soul' if you can understand that.... just sounded flat.
Guest rachel Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I heard it Chris.... and it definitely was different.... sounded unfinished and had no 'soul' if you can understand that.... just sounded flat. Yep it definitely was - there was a soundclip on either the eBay auction or the thread about it on here... but can I find the thread anywhere...?
Guest sigher the gutter snype Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 i have the demo on ebay at the moment and yeah steve not a bad funky soul outing at all and its only £4.99 https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...AMESE%3AIT&rd=1

Chris Anderton Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Rachel, Wow, thats a lot different to what i imagined....more like an acoustic version! It lacks the urgency and passion of the original...or as joan puts it the "soul". I think the vocals may be identical though.......I`ll stick with mine thanks! Chris
Guest woolie mark Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 i cant for the life of me see why there is all the hype i heard it for the first time at the lifeline before last and became a bit ADH about it!!! i think it's the best thing i've heard for a long, long time - out of my league price-wise at moment, but i'm gonna get one someday got it on a cd which i play at home all the time, but you've gotta hear it in a club to really appreciate it's qualities - that choppy guitar and the manic horns bit, quite heavenly my mate john made me laugh, he said to me that the "guitar break" sounds like it's played by a five year old kid who wandered into the studio - but then that's the beauty of a lot of northern tunes....the simplicity spose it will get bunged out on a uk "reissue" label and then be killed stone dead like benny harper though
