SHEFFSOUL
back in the day..certainly when i was doing the allniters etc..very few if any unreleased tunes were on the decks or playlists.Since of course, many top sounds have been unearthed. So which stand out for you?..criteria being unreleased at the time (of recent recording or generally at that time) these mainly being the ones that have lain in archives or vaults or produced as limited acetates, tests, not demos that were pressed to precede an intended release. Many now appear on CD to supplement existing recordings and of course the Kent label has unearthed some great stuff. one of my faves is Maurice Williams-'Look my way' which appeared as an LP only on Kent. So be it northern, crossover,or deep..or whatever whats a really worthy tune thats eventually seen the light of day? Link to comment Social source share

Guest Paul
Chuck Jackson - What's With This Loneliness. It has to be one of the most sublime pieces of Sixties Soul never to have been released. "Millionaire" by Chuck Jackson is a big favourite of mine, not issued until the late 1980s, There are hundreds of great tracks in this category, it would be good to make a list. Robbk
That's a brilliant song. I also love 'it's company time', can you hazard a guess as to who the voice of their boss was? I did see the acetates, and taped them for potential release in "From The Vaults". I don't know the names of any of the group members. But, Smokey produced their Motown cuts in 1962 and 1963. They were the same Versatones that recorded in 1966 for Ernest Burt's Magic City Records, after he bought Wilbur Golden's Correc-Tone Studio and offices at 8912 Grand River. The Boss is someone with a very deep voice. Maybe Clarence Paul? Sylvester Potts? It was probably recorded in 1962, so Robert Bateman was likely gone already. So it can't be him. Robbk
Martha Jean Love - That's The Way The Story Goes / Old Time Lover I've now heard those 2 cuts. Clearly those are Johnny Pate productions for ABC, just as was her release. The group behind her sounds like The Trends. Anyone know, for sure, who they were? Bob A?
