Popular Post Tezza Posted February 12, 2014 Popular Post Posted February 12, 2014 Had a message from Knocker, a close friend of Mark "Mona" Mahony, who has informed us that he has passed away. Many of you will have known Mona, a genuinely nice guy and a Legend on the Soul Scene. One of the greatest Dancers ever to have graced our floors. Please take a little time to remember Mona and if you are out this weekend why not have a little shuffle in his memory. XXX 6
Chalky Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Bloody hell that is a shock. Not seen Mona for a few years since I moved away from Chesterfield. Sad to hear of his passing. My thoughts and condolences are with his family.
Steve L Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Jesus, another one gone! Remember Mona from my earliest days at Notts Palais all dayers 75/76 time, as a young kid he was one of the older lads we used to look up to. Haven't seen him for a couple of years, but knew he wasn't in the best of health. Sad times….. RIP mate
Casper Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 such sad news he is now gone .. always a smile and a bit of fun .. if you ever paid a visit he would insist on getting a few tunes out .. and even though in pain would be up and shuffling in the living room ... RIP soul man xx pete n' susan xx 2
Dazdakin Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Shit cold, shit day, god awful news. . . . Which is getting on my tits now. Rip mate, no more pain God bless Sympathy to the family Dazz
Ronjon Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 (edited) So sad to hear this news. Lived about 150 yards away from him as kids at Holmewood near Chesterfield and was in the same class at school as his sister Sharon. Went to my first nighter with him at Samantha's circa 76. We were walking from Sheffield station when two cars screeched to a halt and three of four coppers jumped out, pinned us to a wall and frisked us and our bags for drugs. Mona was as calm as you like, I was shitting myself. They moved us on when they didn't find anything. I'll never forget that night. Have seen him out and about a few times in recent years and have had a few chinwags with him. My thoughts are with his family. Andy Edited February 13, 2014 by ronjon
Dean Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Great character now left us. Sort of guy who wouldn't see him for a while then he's turn up again and it would be just like he was always there. Saw him do a couple spots over the last few years, had great understanding and taste. Funeral arrangements anyone? 1

Sharon Cooper Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Just reading the nice words about the loss of Mona and thought about the night one of my lads came home from college some years ago saying that he'd been talking to an 'older guy' on his course who was telling him about Northern Soul - turned out to be Mona, and I think when my lad said his parents were into it too Mona used to share lots of tales from back in the day with him- the man lived and breathed the scene and there's not many left like him x RIP

His family have asked people not to turn up dressed in Black if you do not wish to as its a celebration of his life rather than a sombre goodbye. All who knew Mona are welcome. 2
