Hammersoul Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Just been spinning this on lp which is off Rated extraordinaire on Columbia. The lp mix is 5.15 but also got the 45 on Paula(Pink) which is a different/Shorter mix 3.50 but is titled : Story Weather. Wondered if the 45 is legit cos i`m sure i read somewhere it might not be cos all the 45`s/Lp`s on this label i got are Red. Not listed on Discography on soul kinda music. The flip is Love acoount which was on 79 lp: killing me softly.Sorry no clip for the 45 so you can compare. Clock is ticking .
Alan T Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Hello Wayne, the pink Paula is a legit release from 1996. Both tracks are from the "Stop half loving these woman" album.
Hammersoul Posted February 9, 2014 Author Posted February 9, 2014 Hi Alan. Nice one fella, anything else on album worth looking at? Hope your well?

Popular Post Alan T Posted February 9, 2014 Popular Post Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) Hi Alan. Nice one fella, anything else on album worth looking at? Hope your well? The 1996 album is like a reissue of tracks from a few albums from 1977/8 . I'm guessing the rights for the Don Davis Groovesville tracks on those albums ended up with Paula. Johnnie Taylor would of been doing stuff with Malaco in 1996. He never recorded for Paula / Jewel / Ronn, people get him and Little Johnny Taylor who did record for these labels mixed up, they are two different artists. Just buy anything you see by Johnnie Taylor he was a great singer. Edited February 9, 2014 by alan t 5

silver soul Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 (edited) The 1996 Paula track "Stormy Weather" b/w "Love Account" is a totally different version to the original track "Stormy" written by Don Davis & Roy Moore Jr, from the "Rated Extraordinaire" Columbia LP (1977) eg. a sax solo has been added to the mix. The b-side "Love Account" was originally from the "She's Killing Me" Columbia LP (1979). Have to agree that Johnnie Taylor was a brilliant singer. My favourite track would have to be "What About My Love" which you can find on the recently released album "Best Of The Old And The New - The Complete Beverly Glen Music Sessions" (Solaris) which includes the complete "Just Ain't Good Enough" album from 1982 plus three extra tracks from those sessions. Kev Cane Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 (edited) This is a great version of The Dramatics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UNOr-_WobU Oh yes Wayne, just as good in its own way, Tomo made me a fantastic compilation of stuff by JT, going to play it over the next couple of days. BTW If anybody is interested, On the Sky documentary section, they have a crime channel called ID, they have been repeating a documentary about how Johnnies will was contested after he had died, really interesting stuff, as you can imagine when these guys were touring, eventually someone is going to appear later on claiming to be Johnnie's love child which does happen. During all of this though, Johnny comes out as a real nice guy who everybody who knew him loved or liked Kev Edited February 10, 2014 by kev cane 2
Soulaction Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 Another sublime track of his which is well worth checking out is 'signing off with love' from the columbia album 'a new day. Also love the modern soul dancer 'you're the best in the world' from the columbia album 'eargasm'.To be honest,we own nearly every album he released, and there are great tracks a plenty.A true soul legend, like so many sadly missed. 3
Shinehead Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 First record I ever bought by Johnnie was '' Changes'' and I have been a fan ever since . All Johnnies albums contain a few masterpieces . I was going to put a couple of tracks up off youtube but where do you start. His son Floyd has also cut some good stuff too. 1
