Labeat
Well that's no suprise because you fellers are into music rather than limited by one particular scene. Haha. Not trying to teach anybody anything and if your remember, I did say at the outset that what we do would alienate 90% of the members on here. Also, I tried to stress that I was referring to the original brief, which was venues that didn't just play soul but also funk, jazz, hip hop etc. Those library records are funky tunes, played by jazz musicians and frequently sampled by hip hop producers. I'm not for a moment suggesting they're soul records, or that they should be accepted by the Northern fraternity and I completely understand that they don't float you boat - but you can't deny that they fit the bill regarding what the topic starter said he was looking for The old quote "Don't knock it till you try it" certainly applies to me, do what you love and believe in, spread your faith, it may catch on, Good luck 1 Link to comment Social source share

Guest Juniorsoul
thats called across the board.......it don,t work.........something for everybody, nothing for anybody 100 Club seems to do ok with an 'across the board' policy. RAFA; Serious Shades of Soul, likewise. Link to comment Social source share
John Everard
Boomerang isn't just crossover and modern. It features more than its fair share of 60's as well, right across the board. You have to know your crowd, book the right DJ's and get the mix right, have faith in your DJ's. Not everyone wants a formulaic night out, many like a bit of variety. if you don't like a particular policy at a venue then keep away, that's my philosophy. John Everard
Having attended on and off for six years, for reasons outside of soul music. I can categorically state that in my humble opinion the one word I'd use to qualify/ describe Boomerang is "Quality"! Link to comment Social source share
John Everard
Darnall Horti in Sheffield has been going for 5 years now, and we play just about anything. Our guests choose for themselves. Our sister Sunday chillout at the Church House follows the same ethos, very similar to the Horse and Groom and, to a fair extent, frequented by the same crowd. Check us out if you're ever in our neck of the woods. Events are posted on SS and FB. Link to comment Social source share
Tailormade Gaz B
Pretty varied mix of things - reflected in the DJ's on offer. Personal preference is all genres in one room...all night. A lot of nights say they'll do it, but generally lean more toward one specific genre which tends to be up tempo...not always, but you go off what the punters want, I guess, plus the DJ's on the bill, and eventually you carve out an 'affiliated sound'. John Everard
Been to the Horti a couple of times now and missed another due to SkegVegas weekender. What a lovely night out, brill hospitality, nice friendly crowd and a fab balance musically. Count me in whenever I'm available. 2 Link to comment Social source share
