Its Asking A Lot, But

HI ALL,

 

Decided to start buying a few records again, nothing expensive, and thought i would try E-Bay.com(USA). Trawled through 100 pages starting with lowest price listed first and to my suprise about 90% of the items listed were from uk sellers. What was more galling, that most of these on offer were pressings,boots,reissues and some recent releases.

 

Tried the opposite search of most expensive first and again most records on offer were from uk sellers but thankfully original US releases, but way out of my price league.

 

Obviously E-Bay are doing nothing regarding selling of dubious records and sellers of such boots etc are on the increase. Sellers of these items are also getting pretty adept at concealing their true origin.

 

SO what if E-Bay accepted that they will never persue the bootleggers,willingly or otherwise, and just create divisions within their sub headings for sellers of original first releases and those selling "re-releases". I know many will groan at this suggestion but something needs to be done!.

Roy. Use Soul Source Sales links or look at the Other Items for sale by reputable vendors. eBay searches have to be filtered to avoid the dross so save any good UK dealers in your Favourites. Bid on US records and the dealers will add you to their e-mail list to receive regular sales listings. All the top UK dealers have good quality, low end sounds for sale so strike up a relationship with them and turn up some bargains.

Already used Soulsource links to find a few sounds that i liked. As for E-bay, even using some of their filters does not drasticly reduce the amount of dross you have to trawl through to find some fair, slightly lower priced, original releases.

 

I suppose i will just have to follow in yours, and many others, footsteps by doing the long, hard legwork so to speak.

There are a lot of bargains on ebay - but there's a lot of work to be put in, and you need a lot of knowledge before you start. Certainly with 'unknown' stuff, I've seen (and listened to) a lot of interesting 45s on dealers' lists, then traced them back to recent ebay sales for much much less...

 

BUT if you haven't got the time to put in (and I rarely have), it's easier to stick with sellers on here - normally dearer, but a lot less work!
