Lifeline Soul Club: The Real Deal Rare Soul All-Nighter is Ten Years Old
...and we celebrate 10 years of Rare Soul All-nighters...
Lifeline Soul Club: The Real Deal Rare Soul All-Nighter is Ten Years Old.
21st February, 2004 saw Andy Dyson and Mick H with myself doing the promoting bring to the scene the Lifeline Real Deal Rare Soul All-nighter too a full house at the much missed Sheridan’s in Dewsbury.
Move forward to 22th February 2014 and we celebrate 10 years of Rare Soul All-nighters. Time really does fly because it doesn't seem like ten years since Nick Stevenson kicked off the first night to a packed club eager to hear the best the scene had to offer. Since that night a who’s who of the soul world from around the UK and Europe have graced the decks at Lifeline playing to eager crowds a fantastic array of rare soul music. I’d attempt to name all the guests but I know for sure I would upset someone by forgetting them.
Since Sheridan's, the Club has had a couple of other venues since settling in at our current home of the The Brookfields Club, better known to most as The Stables to most. In-between we resided at The Ye Olde Bell near Retford, a top quality venue I personally wish we could go back to. We hosted what were in my own opinion two of the best weekenders I’ve ever attended and many others said the same. We then moved to The Fox, off the A1 at Colsterworth which just didn’t work, too out of the way for many. We then got the chance of moving too the Stables, a top quality all-nighter venue with large dance floor and balcony.

Back to the present. Reluctant DJ and top collector Nick Stevenson returns to help us celebrate 10 soulful years.
Baghdad’s (and the South Coast occasionally) Russ Vickers is flying in to make his debut behind the Lifeline decks. A long time collector, Dj and promoter, we are looking forward to what Russ has to offer on the night. We will hopefully be welcoming the return of Soul Sam to the decks after his recent serious illness. As usual Butch, Andy Dyson, Mick H, Cliff Steele and myself (Chalky) will be playing the very best in Rare Soul from the 60’s, some 70’s and knowing Sam something more recent. To see out our tenth anniversary will be Nottingham’s Rob Smith.
Everyone involved with Lifeline, Andy and Mick, Myself, Mandy and Wendy, would like to thank everyone who has helped us reach our tenth anniversary. All the DJ’s, the record dealers in the balcony, the door staff for looking after you all and most important of all everyone who has paid their hard earned money to come through the door to dance, tap your feet or stroke your chin, without you there would be no club!!
Moving forward a little, unfortunately the Stables Club for April and June was already booked for weddings when we tried to book our dates again. After attempts to secure another venue were beginning to look fruitless Mace came to the rescue with the offer to put on a co-promotion at the newly refurbished Sutherland Road Community project, better known to most as Bidds.
A link to some photos before and after at the refurbished club…..

The venue has been transformed in to a two room entertainment venue. Seating removed and replaced, brand new dancefloor, toilets……you won’t recognise the place!!

Lifeline for the two months mentioned have agreed with the top R&B Club POW WOW to put on a joint promotion. So Lifeline will be in the main room and Pow Wow will be in the second. we are hoping to try and recreate the spirit of Sheridan’s when the top soul clubs from around the country all promoted under one roof. You will hear in the main room the usual Rarest of the rare, forgotten quality oldies from a £5 to £15000 and in Room 2 Pow Wow will treat you to the very best in R&B, Rhythm and Soul, Boogaloo and much more besides. Full details will follow in due course.
We hope to see you all there…we will be back at the Stables in August.

Do you know Dave I think my memory is f**ked.
just do a bit of research and it would appear we were at the Fox before the Bell, 10th December 2005, the first one at the Fox.
We were still at the Fox in June 2006 but must have moved in August or October that year? I can't find an event listing for first Ye Olde Bell night so will have to get old flyers out. Pretty sure the first weekender would be 2007 and the second and last 2008 and moving to the Stables that year. 2009, April we were at thenStables as i had a broken Elbow then and been out of hospital long and it is the only night I have missed.
Will try and do a proper timeline of events at the weekend.
i'd love another weekender at the Bell, best I have been too.
