Stateside Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 We had best producer what about best songwriters i would say Holland/Dozier/Holland as much as others. Also Stevie Wonder he's such a genius Any early Van McCoy stuff Leon Huff was good even before he teamed up with Kenny Gamble - anything that he did as Madra -White - Huff Billy Jackson (good producer as well) Jo Armstead Philip Mitchell has to be one of my all time greats, his name just turns up on tons of stuff Sam Dees - again is brilliant. As well as H-D-H at Motown there were tons of other writers like Smokey, Frank Wilson, Dean & Weatherspoon, Sylvia Moy, Gloria Jones............................. Where do you stop and it is really hard to pick one as being the best.
Soul-Brother Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Sam Dees Phillip Mitchell George Jackson Bobby Womack Barry

Also Stevie Wonder he's such a genius Think this has been "topic"before -but WILLIAM who set up with Gordy has to be in there. You are asking about "known to the majority" IE hits etc?NOT the really best writers who never got recognition?ATB Stevie Z
Guest Baz Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Think this has been "topic"before -but WILLIAM who set up with Gordy has to be in there. You are asking about "known to the majority" IE hits etc?NOT the really best writers who never got recognition?ATB Stevie Z Depends how you look at it Steve, you could say the 'known to the majority' are the best song writers because they sold more songs, or if your looking at it from a 'connoisseurs' point of view you could say a completely unknown song writer, they might have wrote the song for a 'one off' but it wouldn't make them the best, even if the song is brilliant, think i explained it how i ment it
