Russoul1 Posted January 25, 2014 Posted January 25, 2014 (edited) hi all, lately have got hold of a couple of tunes that are better as instrumentals than the vocal sides, I know we have had a thread regards instrumentals but im thinking tunes that have vocals which don't do the backing track justice, if you get my drift...... the couple that I have in mind to start, both recent buys audrey slo - gonna find the right boy - swan ok yes this does have a vocal & instro but defo prefer the instru side secondly, a tune which as a awfull vocal imo sadly mistaken - golden earrings - marc or challenge picked up a 66 acetate instro of this tune which if we where in the mid 70s 80s would be a dancefloor filler imo also the flip of this acetate is a unissued instrumental which again would have been a dancefloor winner in the instrumental hey days have put a link to the above on post 23.for soundfiles any other suggestions guys russ Edited January 26, 2014 by russoul1

Ian Parker Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I agree with Sidra, instrumental far superior. Also Jimmy Fraser (YOP)
Popular Post Jerry Hipkiss Posted January 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted January 26, 2014 Richard Searlings' old Doni Burdick C/U...the vocal sounds like Herman's Hermits! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1Xq1ZKWhKQ 4
jocko Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 The soul man in me thought no way can that be the case, but actually all pretty good examples that cannot be argued with**, SWON ** Other than Blowing My Mind, in my opinion obviously 1

Although I realise I risk opprobrium and accusations of terrible, outdated taste, I think that if you take an objective view and disregard issues of value, rarity etc, there's not a massive difference in the singing of Liberty and say, The Anderson Brothers. *slips on favourite tin hat* 3

A great instrumental of a terrible rock & roll record. Ronnie & Robin - Sidra's Theme is is way better without the awful vocal! Agree! cringworthy Everly style vocals of what was and still is an iconic sound. kev That`s a complete John McEnroe! Edited January 26, 2014 by Guest
Guest Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) That Rose Batiste bird wailing and howling all over what is simply the best N/S instrumental........ever! An arrestable offence in my book https://youtu.be/3_XcA6zuOeU Edited January 26, 2014 by Guest

'How Can I Forget - Joey Dee & The New Starlighters' Think the Starlighters are an early incarnation of the 'Young Rascals'.. Certainly the Young Rascals formed out of the Starliters, but I never realised until a couple of years ago that they were multi-racial which caused some problems :-)...interesting article here...https://www.toppermost.co.uk/joey-dee-starliters/ Edited January 26, 2014 by Jerry Hipkiss 1
Patto Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Jesse Davis--Gonna Hang on in there Girl. Always thought this was spoiled by Jesse's Flat to my ears vocal. Much prefere the Instro as released by Kent a couple of years ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=daH6r1tQk44

hullsoul Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) On the whole I'm a vocal type of a guy but some good examples of better inst than vocals have already been posted.A recent one for me is the inst to The Contemplations-Alone With No Love Dontee, vocal side just doesn't get a look in with me now although it's brilliant in it's own way. Mal C Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) Cant see, has somebody mentioned The Patrick Bradley? bit of a cop out, as this and Liberty track were inst plays.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IbKS3xKo-Vo Edited January 26, 2014 by Mal C
Russoul1 Posted January 26, 2014 Author Posted January 26, 2014 thought sindras theme would get a mention, but yes vocal not brilliant still love it and always gets a good response on the dancefloor, abit like the sharpetts - lost in a world of a dream , sing a long side would have been better as a instro
Bigsoulman Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 TNT Band The Meditation Tiresome vocal by the end but such a spiffing Latin tinged tune. Wish I could remove the vocals myself, tried everything but nothing works.
Winsford Soul Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 What if somebody managed to get hold of all our favourite Motown dancers and turned them into instrumentals. How good would that be. Hat , coat, door. Steve

hullsoul Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Did once play at a soul night the inst side of Lew Kirton-Heaven In The Afternoon by mistake & Tom Paddison couldn't stop laughing after he said "ohhh good the karaoke version" https://youtu.be/fWJnIGbkdfM 1

Popular Post Rich B Posted January 26, 2014 Popular Post Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) I get the northern fascination with instrumentals, and in some case they work, but Jesse Fisher without Jesse Fisher? Lew Kirton without Lew Kirton? c'mon guys! Liberty without Liberty though - no brainer as Kev Bacon would say! ps" I miss my baby" vs. "Bari track"? When you hear either, as you step onto the dance floor it's like throwing yourself off a cliff - exhilarating! Edited January 26, 2014 by Rich B 4
Len Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) Always play the instru.? Sometimes i worry about you Len. .....Sometimes I worry about myself! I'm now convinced I must have got so wrecked one night, that I had my record box the wrong way round (It has been said) .....But - play the whole record, I'm sure there's a lot more 'going on' than in the vocal........um, imagine you were wearing my ears........ Len Edited January 26, 2014 by LEN 1
Len Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) but Jesse Fisher without Jesse Fisher? - no brainer as kev would say! See above post......Give it a go........imagine you were really 'dancing hard' to it at a nighter........(Let me know if you change your mind) ......I'm still convinced - I don't normally go for instrumentals, but for some reason, this one really 'jumped out' at me. All the best, Len Edited January 26, 2014 by LEN
Rich B Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) Len; it was 197... whatever - had the red one from Soul Bowl. Had the white one (from Colin, when he stopped playing it) nice, but once you know the vocal exists.... Edited January 26, 2014 by Rich B 1
Daved Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Really want to hear this Daved.? Might spoil the instru, but here goes... God that is terrible ha ha. Thanks for putting it up Kev. Totally unsoulful vocal. I still love the instrumental though 2
