Guest Motown Junkies Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 A thread to keep all Discovering Motown episodes together! Join me (hi, I'm Steve, I run https://motownjunkies.co.uk) for a Motown radio show like no other - I promise an hour of big hits, hard to find classics and history every week. I've got carte blanche to raid the back catalogue, so if anyone's got any requests, no matter how obscure or obvious, hit me up and I'll spin them for you! I'll post a reply each time a new episode becomes available for listening. All old episodes will be available forever, so don't worry about missing one... There'll be 6 themed "specials" aimed at a wider general audience, and then as of February 8th it becomes a weekly Motown show where I just play great tunes from the Hitsville archives, and give the stories behind the music. All feedback and comments gratefully received. I hope you enjoy! All shows first broadcast on Radio Cardiff 98.7FM (https://www.radiocardiff.org) KTF Steve

Guest Motown Junkies Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Episode 2 ("Motown Guys"), first broadcast on Radio Cardiff, December 2013 https://www.mixcloud.com/discoveringmotown/discovering-motown-special-2-motown-guys-dec-2013/ Another 1-hour Discovering Motown special, featuring big hits and hard to find classics from some of Motown's all-time greatest male artists, as well as an excerpt from my exclusive interview with the great Abdul "Duke" Fakir, last surviving member of the original Four Tops. (Again, bear in mind this one is aimed at a general audience... also, this one was especially beset by technical gremlins, so the sound levels are not exactly my best work.) Track list: The Temptations: Get Ready (Main Theme: Earl Van Dyke: 6 by 6) David Ruffin: My Whole World Ended (The Moment You Left Me) Jimmy Ruffin: Living In A World I Created For Myself Interview with Duke Fakir on the Four Tops' relationship with the Temptations Four Tops: Bernadette Four Tops: Just Seven Numbers (Can Straighten Out My Life) Smokey Robinson & the Miracles: The Tracks Of My Tears The Isley Brothers: This Old Heart Of Mine (Is Weak For You) Marvin Gaye: Tear It On Down The (Detroit) Spinners: We'll Have It Made Edwin Starr: I'm Still A Struggling Man Stevie Wonder: I Gotta Have A Song The Jackson 5: Never Can Say Goodbye The Commodores: Don't You Be Worried (Closing Theme: The Commodores: Machine Gun) Singin' Sammy Ward: Then You Changed Enjoy - all feedback gratefully encouraged.
Guest Motown Junkies Posted January 24, 2014 Posted January 24, 2014 Episode 3 ("Holland-Dozier-Holland Special"), first broadcast on Radio Cardiff, December 2013 https://www.mixcloud.com/discoveringmotown/discovering-motown-special-3-holland-dozier-holland/ Another 1-hour Discovering Motown special, this time featuring big hits and hard-to-find classics from the legendary Holland-Dozier-Holland writing and production team who crafted so many of Motown's most beloved Sixties hits. (Once more, this was made for a general audience to gently ease them into the darker waters of the Motown back catalogue, and it's more packed with hits than anything else I've done. The original description continued: "You may not know the name, but you'll surely know the songs!"... I'm sure everyone on this forum does know the name though! Track list: Martha & the Vandellas: Heat Wave (Main Theme: Earl Van Dyke: 6 by 6) The Supremes: Baby Love Eddie Holland: Just Ain't Enough Love Lamont Dozier: Dearest One Marvin Gaye: Can I Get A Witness Martha & the Vandellas: Come And Get These Memories The Temptations: A Tear from a Woman's Eye (there was a glitch on the recording and this one cuts off abruptly 10 seconds or so from the end - it *would* happen on the rarest track in the show...!) The Supremes: Where Did Our Love Go Four Tops: Baby I Need Your Loving The Supremes: Stop! In The Name Of Love Four Tops: Reach Out (I'll Be There) The Supremes: You Can't Hurry Love Kim Weston: Helpless The Elgins: Heaven Must Have Sent You Freda Payne: Band Of Gold (Invictus) Holland-Dozier feat. Lamont Dozier: Why Can't We Be Lovers (Invictus) Thanks for listening!

From the first ever Motown duet in 1960 through to the early Eighties, this is a collection of Motown's finest pairings in history. (Aimed at a general audience, blah blah blah, you know the drill by now... Less interestingly, this was the first show recorded using my new computer to balance the sound levels properly ) Track list: Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston: It Takes Two (Main Theme: Earl Van Dyke: 6 by 6) Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell: Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing Sherri Taylor & Singin' Sammy Ward: Oh Lover Mary Wells & Smokey Robinson: I Want You 'Round Mary Wells & Marvin Gaye: What's The Matter With You Baby Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell: You're All I Need To Get By Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell: Your Precious Love Chuck Jackson & Yvonne Fair: It Must Be Love Baby Blinky & Edwin Starr: Never Give You Up David & Jimmy Ruffin: Steppin' On A Dream Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye: Pledging My Love Dennis Edwards feat. Siedah Garrett: Don't Look Any Further Billy Preston & Syreeta: With You I'm Born Again Diana Ross & the Supremes and the Temptations: Ain't No Mountain High Enough (Incongruous Closing Theme: The Commodores: Machine Gun) (absolutely, positively not because I pressed the wrong button by mistake, no sir) The (70s) Supremes & Four Tops: Reach Out And Touch (Somebody's Hand) KTF and thanks for listening!
