Guest Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 He has some background with the northern scene soulgirl. Edwyn Collins Northern Soul Interview Yes, I knew that.. but he wasn't doing himself any favours at that time as the masses wouldn't have known what it was all about
Guest Neil-ok Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Yes, I knew that.. but he wasn't doing himself any favours at that time as the masses wouldn't have known what it was all about Yeah very true.

Cunnie Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 Edwyn's video, did anyone else notice Charlie Chuck on the drums? DONKEY! Thought i noticed Charlie. A true comedy legend Must be seen live to be believed, trust me.
soulfulsaint Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 (edited) That Edwyn vid was interesting! What's that all about then? Edwyn and other members of the Glasgow Postcard label used to attend the Sub Club in Glasgow where northern was played alongside funk and indie dance. He has very eclectic music tastes including northern soul. Tragically Edwyn has just had a serious brain operation and is now in recovery. On a side note the original Postcard Records (Josef K, Orange Juice etc) are now very rare and sell for a fortune - wouldn't trade them for a good soul original all the same. Guest soul_hull Posted July 2, 2006 Posted July 2, 2006 keep on burning was the single he released after the extremely successful 'a girl like you' which reached number 4, keep on burning reached number 45!! and before someone pulls me up, 'a girl like you' was a reissue, and keep on burning was the single released after it's success.

Sad to hear bout Edwyn; used to hammer "what prescence" in the clubs back then, have a few of them postcard records, still have the actual postcard too. Danny
Guest Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 I put this vid on my Blog and one of the male dancers in it left a nice comment Isn't the internet a wonderful place!
Guest Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Ok both Tributes but i tried dancing to Edwyn and no matter what i cant help doing a pogo bit as i move my moves?? Weird??? Cant get rid even after all this time the thought that he was using the WC & Northern underground scene (as it was then) as a quick route to fame. Whereas A.B.Cs tribute to smokey seemed to have more integrity and sincerity about it,Great lyrics and a Top production. But then they just evaporated away as if that was enough? Or was everything that came after Crap? If so i wonder why?
