After all, if the membership of a Northern Soul site don't even listen to them, then I can't imagine who else they'd be aimed at. The man has done fifteen of them so far, all of them completely different songs, no duplication, and all of them are three hours each. That's a "lot" of records. You may not like them all, but there are some amazing gems among them, a real true mixture. Now I don't like everything he plays, but some of it knocks my socks off. Take off the blinkers, people, and listen properly and with an open mind. You might change your opinion of him. Also you should really try his soul packs, at £1.00 a record. You cannot lose out. My name is Geoff Swallow, and I am a DJ from Bolton, with a record collection that I am very proud of. I play both Northern and Seventies, but I also specialise in R&B as well, and I have been a member of Soul Source for at least four years. I do indeed know Ian Levine, but I am my own man, and I am certainly not happy about being accused of being him. I hope you will accept me at my word. An apology would be nice. Ian has upset a number of people on here over the years - he can be very defensive and aggressive at times. But, there are many people on here who appreciate the podcasts and his contribution to the soul scene generally. Myself included. Peter 3

Each to their own and I appreciate he made a massive effort to do them so fair play Ian and glad you're efforts are appreciated by many others

If there is nothing new for you out of those 1000 tracks then i find it suprising , makes me wonder if the records were posted up as just a random podcast with no mention of the uploader what people would say about them 1

If you see a track list you can often work out what's 60's, what's 70's, and therefore avoid the excruciating crossover stuff, but without one, you just have to sit and fast forward and the whole process is too clunky for me. 4

Maybe I was waiting to be blown away with massive new discoveries and one offs after all the hype from not just Ian bit all his supporters. I agree with Pete too they became hard work to listen too and became easy to switch off Keiron on FB has done a podcast thing where loads and loads of soulies/djs and many my favourite djs did 30 minute podcasts. Now many of them was to me the same as Ian's podcast where maybe they was trying to be too different and they just didn't do it for me. Sometimes when you stretch to be different the quality just ain't there and to these ears I found too much just not to my liking. How about picking me out 30 tunes that are worth shouting about and I will listen with open ears again. Im not a Ian Levine hater I have never seen him never mind met him and never had a cross word with him either so to me he is just another soulie/dj. Like I said I appreciate the hard work effort and passion he obviously has but his taste in music is a lot different to mine.

Life is too short to listen to self indulgent, over long pod casts which offer nothing for people who are into "Northern" I have no axe to grind with any of the posters. But I find it one of life's bitter ironies that people who were once at the vanguard of our movement, are so desperate to reclaim past glories that they happily proclaim "brilliant new discoveries" about 45's they wouldn't have given house room to back in the day. I'm as desperate as the next man/woman to hear something new. But not that desperate. The Dj's from the States have no concept of what makes a "northern" tune, so I always give their plays a wide birth anyway. 2

As I'm away a lot I have to download them and listen, Three hours far too long. An hour and half would be far better and better received I think. Track list would be good as well. 1

I've no axe to grind with Ian Levine, I've only had dealings with him once & he was extremely polite & respectful.Just because some people aren't falling over themselves to lavish praise on the podcasts is nothing to do with an Anti Ian Levine agenda & more a case that in some peoples opinions the music is fairly poor. I will also admit I'm not that interested in 70s, but from a purely 60s Northern view I find his podcasts a waste of time, as Rod mentioned it's padded out with a lot of uptempo pop, some of the more soulful tunes are ok but I don't think I've heard one that made me sit up & think i must get one of these. I'm not saying that there isn't good stuff on them but like others I don't have time to spend 3 hours listening to stuff I don't like in the hope of finding one or two good ones so tend to listen to about 1 & half hours before I give up. Maybe if he cut them down to an hour & put the best of three hours on they would be more enjoyable ? Edited March 5, 2014 by SHSDave 2

IN saying that I have felt his last 3 have been the best hes dome based on choice (My ears). Has nyone genuinely thought that IL loves the bloody music he plays and it isnt about reclaiming past glories - If it was then I would think 80% of us over 50 might be in the same boat!

Nothing to rave about not even good enough to play out. Some times i wonder if most people have good taste in music. 1
