Just came across this, never heard it before, supposedly Chuck Jackson First Released song...

 

On the You tube discussion some chap states this is the Del-Vickings backing up Chuck Jackson on this, but the original 45 came out on the FEE-BEE label with the two thin lines going across the middle.

It's probably the first record he sang lead on, but it's certainly not the first record he sang on.

The Original Del-Vikings (members Kripp Johnson (born Corinthian Johnson 16-May-1933, died 22-June-1990 at his home in Pontiac, Michigan - cause: prostate cancer) Kripp Johnson was also a member of The Black Eyed Peas who had a 1970 release on Ultra-City 70-317 "Go Thru The Motions / Smallest Man Alive"),  Chuck Jackson,  Eddie Everette, Don Jackson and Arthur Budd) this was the second set of Del-Vikings which was formed after the group's new manager Al Berman took  the group minus Kripp Johnson to Mercury records after the success in 1956 of "Come Go With Me" on Fee Bee 205, apparently all the members with the exception of Kripp Johnson were under age when they signed their contracts. So Kripp Johnson had to stay with Fee Bee as he was still under contractual obligations, so he formed a new group also called The Del-Vikings.

Kripp Johnson ended up back with his original group once his contract with Fee Bee expired)

In my interview Chuck told that around 1956 he joined the Raymond Raspberry Gospel Singers as a background singer but wasn't on any of their records.

He then joined the the Dell-Vikings in the line-up of Chuck, Eddie Everett, Arthur Budd, Corinthian "Kripp" Johnson and Don Jackson, but didn't record.

Clarence Quick owned the name "Dell-Viking", so as an alternative they were called the Versatiles.

After this Chuck talks about the song Willette at length, but ends that "Willette is the first ever record my voice is on."
