Popular Post Mark Bicknell Posted January 17, 2014 Popular Post Posted January 17, 2014 That's the period and scene I miss, it was still so exciting then and made me proud to be part of it, wonderful times, was one of the regular Buzzard DJ's can't believe it was 30 years ago. 8
Reforee Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) The Unicorn Club.............great people, great music, and records at a price you could afford, certainly boosted my collection from the dealers selling there. I remember Mick Smith banging on about The Dells "Thinkin about you" way way before it was really accepted and him selling me a copy and saying if you don't like it you can give it me back! Still got it! Cheers Mick. It is hard to believe how many faces and friends are still on the scene........some still with hair. I have some photos of this era somewhere, must dig them out. Dave H. Popular Post Patto Posted January 17, 2014 Popular Post Posted January 17, 2014 Parts 2, 3, and 4 on way... Realy enjoyed watching these mate BIG thanks for doing them. The 80s scene was a golden period when we were just the right age to be mature about certain things and still young enough to be crazy about other things. 6

Geeselad Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Its proper good this, looks far more underground and cooler than any footage I've seen of Wigan. 1
Chris Turnbull Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Really enjoyed watching these clips - thanks for uploading Anyone got similar home video footage of Stafford or Morecambe? Would love to see that too
Popular Post Wiggyflat Posted January 17, 2014 Author Popular Post Posted January 17, 2014 I've a few more to transfer to DVD and then youtube.I think it's time to get these uploaded for public viewing or they will be lost forever.I cant think many people would have kept old video cassettes and I wonder how much footage like this was just thrown out.Best bits are a request for Hayes Cotton, the queue at the record bar,Brian Rae in a tank top and the amount of wedge haircuts and moustaches. As I have said if you have any old videos just pm me. 4
Reforee Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) Good gracious, in Part 4, that's Pablo and Simon Small in the white shirts at the front of the screen! Amazing to see them again. Edited January 17, 2014 by reforee
Len Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 So glad I at least caught the back end of this special era - Just Brilliant. Catch Dave and Lisa Vanner at 13.46 walking in, and Lisa dancing at 31.51 (amongst many other faces) Great stuff - Thanks for posting. Len
Len Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Who's the guy D.Jing at 27.29, playing 'How High Can Ya Fly', then 'Use It Before You Lose It'? - F*ckin' brilliant! Len 1

Len Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 was wondering that myself, christ for what was considered a bit of an oldies nighter at the time the music sounds pretty progressive by todays standards. Nina (the wife) just walked in my record room (where this computer is) and said........."Chr*st why ain't the music like this anymore?"........ I'm lovin' these videos, just watching the Adam interview - he's saying he's p*ssed off that 2 nighters are clashing, and that promoters should be talking to each other.......oh, how times have changed.....oh how I'm enjoying my 'Northern Soul Gap Year'...... Len Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Mark Bicknell interview - In the back ground they're playing 'What have I Done Wrong'.....I feel like crying...maybe that's just nostalgia getting to me..... Len
Len Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 who ever it is I'll have a pint of what he's had I think he's fantastic - and I'm sure I've had the same coffee in the past - Whoooo Hoooo! - He ain't a D.J that just 'Stands there waiting for the record to finish'......... Len 1
mark and donna Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I take it this was before there was the second/rare/alternative room, was introduced?. gotta say all the better for it, I know people don't like the across the board "tag" but it looks like it wasn't so compartmentalised (yes its a word ) back then. just about dancing and having a good time. 2
Len Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 just about dancing and having a good time. ......Long gone....... See ya Thanks again for the vids.....now well depressed Len 1
mark and donna Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I think he's fantastic - and I'm sure I've had the same coffee in the past - Whoooo Hoooo! - He ain't a D.J that just 'Stands there waiting for the record to finish'......... Len that's what I want from a D.J someone passionate about anything they put on the turntable.on the gloucester video you don't hear the end of most of the records because the D.J literally cant wait to play the next record, and someone with a bit of patter is always good (even though at most nighters you cant hear a word of it ) 1
mark and donna Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 don't be sad Len be glad that you were part of it, I'm sad I wasn't (but then I was 11 in 1983! ) 1

I've just watched that bit again.....and the fact that no one has named him yet, makes it even cooler - He ain't got a 'big name' Len
Len Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 (edited) don't be sad Len be glad that you were part of it, I'm sad I wasn't (but then I was 11 in 1983! ) I ain't that much older, I was 15 in 1985, that's the 'back end' of this magnificent era that I mean - attending The Fleet All-nighters in Peterborough, and Leighton Buzzard (just the once) If I don't get sad, I get angry......but this is the world we live in - I get angrier at that..... All the best mate, Len OK, not wishing to be over dramatic or using this thread as a platform to self promote but this old footage has been the kick up the backside I needed, it's reminded me what the scene really means to me deep down and what it should be about, it's fair to say that I don't have the tunes I once owned and I refuse to ride the back of past DJ'ing but I can certainly put something together and would be happy to bring something to the current party, I've been out of the loop really for about 8 or 9 years for a number of reasons but if the invitation is there Len and I'm allowed to dip my toe I would love to make a return now and again so let's do it lol Mark. 5
Guest Andy Kempster Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 as I have told (and bored Jon) on many an occasion. 4th anniversary at the unicorn was my first ever nighter. love seeing this footage. I was just a sheepish little scooter boy hiding in the corner but OMG what a great thing to have a part of

Right, that's a date mate - Bring whatever records you have...but most of all bring that ethos you and the guys had through the 80's Over to you Jem - Book Mark up for the event after Bob Hinsley and Robbo - Mark, you'll be in the Main Room, as well as 'Len's Den'....and you will smile! He comes across as one of the great characters that made our Scene - Can you tell us anymore about him - Did he D.J regular? All the best, Len Baz was a top bloke mad as a box of frogs, lived in Reading for a few years so I became good friends with him, he had a really bad accident hitting a tree in his car and lost an eye, his party trick was to take out his false eye and drop it in his or other people's drinks, he DJ'd a lot around that time, I remember he pested me to sell him Ray Pollard - This Time on Shrine allnight at Leighton Buzzard till I finally gave in and sold it to him for fifty quid lol, he loved to party big time, top bloke. 4
