Soul-slider Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Brilliant L.P. In my collection. 'Hold Down' must be one of the best 'Boss' tunes out there! bloody expensive on a 45 though (Big Shot). 'Sufferer' is a long term fave, remember when I first heard it off the Tighten Up - volume 2 l.p back in 1979 as me and some mates were just getting into the Skinhead look, managed to find a copy on 45, lovely tune. Oh the memories....
Karl s Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 Dude your right also what wickid tunes , good pic you look cool 1

Very expensive on Big Shot seeing as how it came out on Crab It's also on one of the Pama compilations. I sold my copy of this, but I've still got the instrumental version "Sic Him Rover" on a Jamaican blank.

Oh the memories.... skinhead johnny 2.jpg Sufferer is one of the most important records in my life, when I was 9 there was an older kid over the road called Brian Smith and for some reason he gave me this record because he knew I liked Isarelites and the reggae tunes that were charting at the time, I was only 9 but it was the first reggae record I ever owned and unbelievably, I still have the same copy, it's got writing all over it, tear on the label, even some silver paint on it but I'd never sell it...to have had a record for 45 years.. I just played this and there's barely a noise on the record, both sides! Edited January 17, 2014 by Pete S 1
Karl s Posted January 17, 2014 Author Posted January 17, 2014 Wow thats totally wickid , when i was 11 we had a rasta decorator called paul from shepherds bush he gave me tighten up on orange trojan this changed my life completely gone were my mums beatles and pink floyd , it was reggae all the way for me till this day im 49 in a few weeks Northern played a big part for me too from 1980 till now 1

I sold my copy of this, but I've still got the instrumental version "Sic Him Rover" on a Jamaican blank. LOL...That's because I don't have it and was thinking of 'Sufferer' which is on Big Shot. I remember Tipper (sure you know him Pete? Simon) saying he had a spare copy of 'Hold Down' for me NC £30....he never did get round to selling it to me, it was just as they were shooting up in price! Reckon he had second thoughts 'Hold Down' is on the 'A Gift From pama' L.P (got mine at a car boot for £1 in the 90's) I have 'Sic Him Rover' on a JA blank too, bit crackly,
Pete S Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 I have 'Sic Him Rover' on a JA blank too, bit crackly, Mine's got the worst damage I've ever seen at the start of a record, the first groove that actually plays is the first note of the actual instrumental after the talking and dog barking, so at least it can just about be cued in
Soul-slider Posted January 17, 2014 Posted January 17, 2014 Ha, well at least you're spared all that 'dog barking', actually someone making the barking noises (Lee?) and bottles smashing!!
Biggordy Posted January 20, 2014 Posted January 20, 2014 It wouldn't be Lee Perry or Bunny Lee making the noises as it was a Derrick Harriott production! Hold Down is overrated IMO, Sufferer is the much better tune. 1
