Guest WheelCity45 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) Two very fine dreamy soul recordings... & the third choice: The Unissued Dean Courtney... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyL8_7eHMac Edited January 15, 2014 by WheelCity45
purist Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Top tune has to be Tony Mason "Take Good Care" Closely followed by Willie Kendrick "What's That On Your Finger" Not sure this qualifies as it's almost midtempo, but it's very "Big City", and my girlie choice, Lesley Miller " I Talk To Your Picture" other 'less quickies, but not really beat ballads' of note from the later 60's or 70's inc the magnificent Prime Ministers "Make Up", Main Ingredient "Black Seeds", Jon Lucien "Would You Believe In Me" Insights "You're Just A Someday Girl" Charles Drain "I'm Gonna Stay" & Mighty Pope " If You Want A Love Affair" - all of which have received plays at suitable venues down the years 1
Daniel Harvey Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 always enjoyed Gil Bernal "This is Worth Fighting for".
Soulhawk1960 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Betty Barnes - Walking Down Broadway Gil Bernal - Can You Love A Poor Boy Joe Williams - Lonely Man
Benji Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Peggy March - Losin' my touch Kenny Carter - I've gotta find her Roy Hamilton - Heartache hurry on by Faye Crawford - What have I done wrong
Pete S Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Gwenn Stacey - Ain't Gonna Cry No More Brilliant record that, came out on a UK EP!

Mach Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Couple of mine old RCA favs Barbara Cooper - whats one more tear Gia Mateo - If cant say anything nice 2
Daniel Harvey Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Barbara Cooper's "The Playground" is another goodie.
Mick Sway Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 My choices are bit obvious I know, always thought Bobby Day - Pretty Girl Next Door , Takes some beating. Along with Kenny Cater I've got to find her and of course H B Barnum. However it just goes to show that there'd be plenty to play with for another of those great Kent RCA Compilations.
Pete S Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Thought this was about RCA beat ballads, HB Barnum?
Mick Sway Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Thought this was about RCA beat ballads, HB Barnum? Although I wouldn't argue with the experts, maybe next time I post I'll check it out on the mixer's beat monitor first. I suppose you might say the same about Bobby Day too. Enjoyable thread none the less..........

Prophonics 2029 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Quiet a dark one Gwen Stacey Lonely Girl/How Many Times Can One Heart Break, 1
Prophonics 2029 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I m sure I have this on RCA, if I don't they should ahve put it out. And the duet with Shep Grant doing an Al Jolson thing leaves me wanting more from them both.
Pete S Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Superb choices. Used to have a lovely UK green demo of Sylvie Vartan and I don't know if anyone remembers this, I had a UK Decca acetate of April, May & June, it was obviously mooted for a UK RCA release but it never happened (Decca distributed RCA product at the time)
Pete S Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Quiet a dark one Gwen Stacey Lonely Girl/How Many Times Can One Heart Break, Fabulous. I ought to put together a podcast of this stuff. 1
