Grayman45 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Can anybody give me any info on this record. It's one those I never heard much of. I have it on ABC, the ABC emblem being coloured. Is this a boot / re-issue? Seem to remember paying over the odds for it back in the day.
Jerry Hipkiss Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Never booted, by the time this came out the coloured logo was more common, but some pressing plants used the old design for longer than others, I think... 1
John Benson Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 I remember this getting plays in the late 60's on UK HMV, it wouldn't have been very old at the time. Can't say as it was ever popular enough to get booted or anything. As Jerry says, the record was pressed up at different plants in the USA, and both logos were used around that time. You can still see both label styles on this records around today. 2

pikeys dog Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 A tenner would be tops for a US issue, IMO
45cellar Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I have these two, almost certain that I have seen You Always Hurt Me on at least three different Variations / Pressing Plants for ABC. This one the most frequently seen in my experience.
Grayman45 Posted January 13, 2014 Author Posted January 13, 2014 Bloody Great IMO! Yeah! All the ingredients of a good Northern sound. I think the first time I heard it, was on a tape full of old Torch favourites. I could be mistaken.
45cellar Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Bloody Great IMO! I agree, one of the first records to make it into my collection and still love to hear it. When I bought my ABC Stock Copy back then, Imports were just starting to make it to our shores. My friend bought a copy from the same box and it was a different label variation.

Rick Cooper Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Great record that seems to be seriously undervalued. Picked up a very good UK HMV copy a few years ago for around a fiver.Another version of this by The Exception was tipped in the 70s but seems to be forgotten now as a demo went through ebay at £4.99 with no takers . Maybe if a name DJ played it the value would rocket.Rick 1

Rick Yes Rick, good blue-eyed version, I first heard it at the Cats, 1973, think it was Allan S playing it, got myself a demo and it's still in the collection :-) but for soulful content I'll dig out my UK issue of the Impressions! Mal C Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 think we need to hear this.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BVHjBwNjCU
Platters 81 Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Heres a West Coast variation....styrene delta no 65195 (Feb 67) 2
Soulof Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Both versions brilliant. Great record that seems to be seriously undervalued. Picked up a very good UK HMV copy a few years ago for around a fiver. Rick played the Exception version quite a few times out and it always goes down brilliant. Loads of soulful energy for £4.99 to say the least . Both versions grt!
