Mighty Joe Young probably too common to have been played anywhere though Stafford most likely, if anywhere.

Kelly Bros was known from it's release on UK Sue in the mid 60's.

Dunno the last one.

Oh no, the which version debate on the chambers Bros... dont get the USA Columbia single, think the version you need is LP USA and other, and Spanish or German 7inch release, something like that, but USA 7 inch release does not have the live effect on it, just does not have the 'hit' of the version you want..

I think thats right..

The Chambers Brothers is off the LP or the German 7 inch, that is the version you want.  Think the German is multicoloured vinyl.

Mighty Joe Young, couldn't tell you who played it first.  As Pete says it was around for years and  a cheapie, still is, another tape swapper sound.

Are you saying the 7" on Columbia is the same take as on the LP Chalky?

The US 7 is different from the LP, the LP is the one I think?  The German one is what they all go for isn't it?

I don't think the LP and the US 7" are different at all. They sound exactly the same to me, and I'm not just saying that because I play the 7" either  .

Can anyone post up the German version? I can't find any version on Youtube that sounds different from the US single (including the US LP The Time Has Come)  and to be honest every time I've heard it played out, it's always sounded like the US 7".

These two sound different to my ears...

and this one says it's from the LP?

Granted their isn't a lot in them, one sounds like it is live.

So the red one is the German issue? Yes I agree totally different, but the LP and white Columbia sound exactly the same to me. To be honest the US version is just as good, so it wouldn't bother me which version was played.

Yep the LP and the issue if that is the source sound the same.  The German has the live vocals and a bit more going on in the mix by the sounds of it?  I tend to stick to US issues etc so that would do for me too and is just as good as you say.

Hi Chalky

I have the U.S Demo. This is the one that is a studio recording but has a live effect with the count in.This version to my ears is more urgent and raw and is better played out

The German release is different and is same as the LP i think.Still good but as i say i prefere the U.S cut

Any idea on who started spinning it first and where did the Kelly brothers first get plays

See I did say, if you mention this track, we spend the next three days discussing which ones the best mix, for the future I'm going to state it in my signature, save us all precious brain cells wondering why we all bought the wrong record!

Yes we did hammer it quite a bit at Move On. That would be about 4 years ago. I doubt we were the first though, although I personally hadn't heard it before then.

Love the Kelly Bros, i expect it must have been played before, but Mick Smith was playing it early doors at the 100 club in the mid to late 9ts... remember buying mine from across the tracks in Brighton, a happy day that,  brilliant record...

Sits right next to Little Charles and the Sidewinders - Talkin About You Babe, dont you think?

Mal.C

One of my reg spins too when get the chance to spin, it also sounds very similar when played side by side to the royal premiers - I can make it if i try - MBS. Little Charles is also one of my fav spins.

Bowing down to the cognosenci........if thats spelled right i will fuckin join em ....but  the German relaese...(quite rightly Chalky) vomit coloured issue is apparently  a  much, much better quality release than the US  release .........God bless ze chaps in das studio !!!

With you on that Martyn.

Bought a French issue then read that it was a weak version compared to others etc etc. Well it sounds bloody good to me (which is all that matters .....erm & of course those that have the misfortune of hearing me play it out  ) but I listened to some of the various releases & it sounds identical. What I want to know is, am I going deaf ? :g:

I would say the Kelly Bros first main plays in my days was probably Allanton, not sure who played that, possibly Mr Walls Jnr.  but it had been a tape swappers hit for most of the 80's, originating I would say from the Preston area, with Gaz Kellet being my first contact with the record I think. How many times has that been said over the years. It certainly featured on a number of tapes I did after that.

Amazing to think of that coming out on British back in the day, was it based on club plays do we know for definite? It came out on their LP didn't it also, which came out in the UK (any spare copies gratefully rehomed :D ) didn't it. Do people (the really old ones on here obviously) remember it as a new release, I assume it would be publicised in the specialist press of its day.
