JOE TORQUAY Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 James Washington Lee Im Need Somebody C/w Don't Ask Me James Washington Lee - 5 years later made one of the greatest Northern Soul records of all-time. This is Morris Chestnut’s debut single 45 that impressed producer George Motola so much so, he became automatic the lead vocalist of George’s group on Mar-Kay - the VOWS. Morris wrote both sides of these richly arranged vocal-group Doo-Wop’s. Morris’s lead vocal is in familiar warbling form, hitting all those notes that would feature strongly in his “TOO DARN SOULFUL” masterpiece. A totally unique vocal style that enabled him to be considered by Europeans as a SOUL GIANT! whether he be with The Vows, The Attractions or credited as a lone artist, this guy’s vocal delivery is awesome. A 45 for the serious Soul collectors, the completists who are not ashamed of a little hero-worship, especially now that Morris’s son is a highly regarded actor. Piece of history, presented here as a flawless summer of ‘62 platter. . Sorry, this item has already been won! The winning bid was £ 2,572.00 Wendel Western & The Shades Of Sound Nag On Me C/w All By Myself So different, so compelling and so elusive! Check out the totally seductive soundfile that gives up a fascinating blend of Jazz, Blues & Soul. A prompting sax instantly grabs your attention, as it follows Wendel Westerns bluesy vocal through a maze of instruments, enhanced by an uplifting girl group back up. The innovative arrangement has surprises at every turn, with individualistic breaks and intelligent use of all the components avoiding any chance of a falling away in a humdrum production. If the handful that turned up a few years back, had not surfaced I think this 45 would now be a hugely expensive tune.. as it does have everything necessary for the Monster dancefloor reaction. As it is, this rare disc is sitting patiently waiting it’s turn for stardom. Records this different, this good and this infectious always in the end come through when least expected to take their place in Northern Soul history. Ownership of this Stock-Grail could be yours as an affordable investment, as the condition is a tad lesser than the copy will sold in 18 months ago for a huge sum. In depth condition analysis on this very important listing is as follows: Vinyl has some light surface marks visually vg+ plays Mint - without even the merest murmur of a flaw, listen to that monstrous full orchestra production belting through totally loud & clear. Labels - you can scrutinized the light wear that leaves all the silver text clear and free of wear, light ring wear on left hand side, but not affecting text. Third scan clearly reveals a small cut-out drill touching the label edge and deadwax - but NOT encroaching on any part of the two turn run-out groove on either side. A record of this historical importance and rarity needs fine detail description, so please scrutinize, the clean as a whistle sound and the labels. Ownership will admit you to a very exclusive club indeed.. this is Wigan Casino classic collecting at it’s most challenging to own Sorry, this item has already been won! Pete S Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 F*cking Flamma Sherman at £230, I have TWO of these and have listed them at £50 each and got no takers whatsoever. Who are these people paying such stupid prices, if they go on Discogs they'd find one on there at a quarter of that price. Mugs. 3

I got my mint promo copy about 15 years back from a shop in Oxford for about a fiver (or less).
Frankie Crocker Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Tobi Legend WOW. What next - Dean Parrish for £750? Clearly money is no object for some collector but he sure has good taste... 1
Guest Posted January 9, 2014 Posted January 9, 2014 (edited) Can't believe it, £230 for Flamma Sherman, it's just not a good record! I found a mint copy with the company sleeve, and felt guilty selling it for £15! No matter how many times I played it, it did not get any better! Edited January 9, 2014 by Guest
Julianb Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Have a Soul Merchants in the sales box at £40, am I missing something? Anyway, put the price up - let's see what happens due to the JM factor!!
Scal Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Only £250 for a British "Evil One" demo.....someone has got a good deal......it just shows that these results are no indication of reality!!!!
Steve Ss Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Have a Soul Merchants in the sales box at £40, am I missing something? Anyway, put the price up - let's see what happens due to the JM factor!! No it's rubbish............. If it goes down to £20 then I may have a pop
Julianb Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Only £250 for a British "Evil One" demo.....someone has got a good deal......it just shows that these results are no indication of reality!!!! The seller will only receive £200 after commission of 20% which I think is about the correct price for this gem.
Pete S Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 The seller will only receive £200 after commission of 20% which I think is about the correct price for this gem. But compare the Flamma Sherman price to that, and the quality of the record - dear me... 2
Scal Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 The seller will only receive £200 after commission of 20% which I think is about the correct price for this gem. My point is that very few of these auction results actually have any meaningful relevance as to quality or rarity.
KevH Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Wendell Western about the right price.Thought this would have gone for more.
Guest I KNOW NOTHING Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 justin jones .... very cheap. seen a want on here a few months ago. guy willing pay £200 + british copy of same record, for a copy on Flippin label.
Cover-up Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 justin jones .... very cheap. seen a want on here a few months ago. guy willing pay £200 + british copy of same record, for a copy on Flippin label. Think it was the other way round, £200 plus US copy in exchange for UK copy? I made the same mistake myself when I first saw it... Anyway, yes, pretty cheap for Justin Jones. Think there's plenty of people who wouldn't dream of bidding on one of Mr Manship's auctions, assuming they all go crazy. So when something "mid-range" pops up, not so many people bother. With surprising results...

So when something "mid-range" pops up, not so many people bother. With surprising results... noticed a lot of left field, semi known or new stuff actually going cheap on jm's auctions recently, cheaper than he'd probabky put them at set sale. Seems to be mostly the tried and tested 'safe bets' that go crazy now. Might reflect jm's market or the mood of the scene, not exactly bursting with innovation.
Steve G Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Yes left field stuff going cheaper, "big guns" chasing trophy records, been going on for several years now....
