Popular Post Mike Posted January 8, 2014 Popular Post Posted January 8, 2014 how about a flyer highlight thread just a off the cuff thread asking r each member to post up one flyer that has impressed you recently and words as well to start... the one below led me to start this thread... so must have impressed me... top tip rather than upload flyer the best way may be to get the flyers url eg https://music.telasource.netdna-cdn.com/monthly_01_2014/event-29956-0-45568400-1389123051.jpg then post it via the image icon in the editor toolbar 4

Ljblanken Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 (edited) liked this one (which i found on soul-source) so much i had it made into a poster for my bedroom! hope the owner of the image doesn't mind :-) for anyone that is curious, i had it made at Costco.com. it was cheap! and they mail it to your house. and it is actually printed onto a canvas that is stretched over a wooden frame. really nice service for the price (i do NOT work for costco, btw!) https://www.costcophotocenter.com/Shop/CanvasPrints#/ Edited January 8, 2014 by ljblanken
Mike Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 yep agree, two great highlights any more worthwhiel of a mention out there... ?
Harry Crosby Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Ive just started designing a few myself. It really is amazing how these graphic programmes work. Due to my illness I have quite a lot of time on my hands, but let me tell you, you need it if your learning from scratch. If anyone wants to give me a challenge, I`ll have a go. Below is a sample. 1
Guest MBarrett Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 yep agree, two great highlights any more worthwhiel of a mention out there... ? Mike I would like, if poss, to know who does the art work for some of these flyers. Some of them really are first rate. Works of art. The software is one thing but IMHO you need a real talent too. Bri, Do you know what software your daughter used, and how did she master it to that level? MB

MB Photoshop is the premium software, but is pricey, and very complicated if your new to it. Personally I find the GIMP 2.8 software just as good, still hard to work out at the beginning, the bonus is its a free download.

Guest MBarrett Posted January 14, 2014 Posted January 14, 2014 Sadly short lived 'Sweetest Feeling' stuck with a theme. Sweetest_Feeling_Hull-1.jpgSweetest_Feeling_Hull_Christmas_2013-1.jpg Once again excellent flyers. But also something funny here. I live on Dagger Lane in West Bromwich. Pretty unusual name - I think there are only 3 in the whole U.K. I knew there was a Dagger Lane in Hull but no idea there had ever been a soul do there. I think that's called synchronicity isn't it!
Popular Post pikeys dog Posted January 14, 2014 Popular Post Posted January 14, 2014 Seems that a lot of folks are impressed by their own flyers - come on folks - the idea is flyers that are different to the norm.... 4

Steve Ss Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 My first ever niter. Caught my eye. :-) Now that's what a flyer should look like! And no I am not a luddite...........I work in print/packaging design so always have a "professional" view on any printed material......
Jordirip Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 The flyers/posters for the Dig Deeper nights in New York are always fantastic in my opinion. Absolutely fantastic artwork. They'd make a great series of posters.

Autumnstoned Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) I liked the last Majestic Soul flyer. Sadly no longer able to attend this event. Edit Nor it seems to upload the flyer. Oh well take my word for it, it looked good! Edited January 15, 2014 by autumnstoned
Pomonkey Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Thanks for the kind words on the Dig Deeper flyers, since Day 1 way back in the summer of 2008 they've all been done by our good friend Marco, would highly recommend him to any of you looking for design work, you can hit him up at soulmarcosa@earthlink.net. And most of them are still available for purchase as posters, thick glossy stock and look great, know a fair few friends around the world have done a "wall" of them, drop a PM if you're interested!.
Andybellwood Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 Hope Andy Hudson posts some of the offerings from NY Rare Soul Revue at Tadcaster - great imaginative art work with excellent layout.
