Pete S Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Why shouldn't "Foot Stompin' Music" have been played at Wigan? - just because it was a new release?? How bizarre! It's not to my particular taste, but as with Isaac Hayes Movement "Disco Connection", this track was immensely popular with just about everyone at the time - even the pop discos picked up on it eventually. With his former strong connections to Motown, Hamilton Bohannon surely had more claim to be accepted by Northern Soul fans than some of the lousy pop records that were being played. Only it's lack of "rarity" could be held against it (by some sad individuals) and that's downright perverse! I said a similar thing over the page, I heard it on a Wigan tape a few years back and couldn't place what it was immediately - it sounds even better now than it did then

Only it's lack of "rarity" could be held against it (by some sad individuals) and that's downright perverse! Could you please reread my posts and tell me exactly where I said it shouldn't have been played I have always championed new releases and I have never at any point been swayed by how rare a record is or not. I like Soul music from all eras and all tempos always have done and always will. I bought new releases right throughout the seventies and continue to do so. The only thing I find "perverse" here is how someone could read what I said and reach the conclusion that you have. I knew I should have stayed on the Media section. Manus
John Benson Posted September 27, 2008 Posted September 27, 2008 Got to agree with Manus on this one Mel, I didn't think he was saying that it shouldn't have got played at Wigan - merely that it got some plays (as opposed to lots of plays?) I remember it getting lots of plays round our way at the time - along with other Mecca and Wigan tunes at the same time. But I don't think it's worth having an argument over...

Yes John I think you're right it isn't worth arguing over and I wouldn't want Mark's thread to turn into another arguing thread when I've actually enjoyed reading the posts on here. Cheers Manus
