Northern Silent Niter?

I suppose I should have asked this before Christmas as then it would have been a half decent pun, but has anyone thought of putting on a northern silent niter in the same manner as a silent disco? People bringing their own music to listen to on ipods or similar.

Everyone could hear what they wanted all night, no arguments about format, no DJ's needed, no complaints from the neighbours about the noise.

What's not to like?

It could be the new new thing!

oh dear, talk about a misconception. The concept of a silent disco is that people listen to the DJ through wireless cans, not their own iPod ROFL

Problem of OAP's trying to understand the yoof concepts, they always get it wrong.

And even if the OP was right in his assumption, you would need a bundle of teenagers there to explain to the crowd, average age 67.5, how to work these new fangled things (probably Sony Walkman's)!

Whereas I read there is usually 2 DJs to choose from and so you can switch over from one to the other via 2 headphone channels as you like.....

Saw a clip of it ages back and a huge crowd of dancers all singing 2 diff tunes out aloud as it played through their headphones.....not exactly silent and way out of tune!!!

I'm sure I've been to a few of these in the past where some looked like they was dancing to a completely different tune to what was actually being played at the time ...

Forget who but someone in the 80's was dancing to his Sony Walkman.

Sean Gibbon's newphew at a Yarmouth, Sean brought him along as he was going to be the next big DJ, but he seemed to prefer his own music. He left him in radio room with a number of us, that I think included Ozz and a few others. As we were leaving he had somehow got him self tangled in some wires and was tied to a chair. I assume someone did free him at some point.......

There was a guy that went to Morcambe and Newcastle allnighters around 1985 that I remember dancing with his earphones on....used to wear denim shorts if I remember correctly....I did ask him what he was listening to, he just said he preferred to dance to his own tunes.
