Cheers for spinning it at Scarborough & will you thank your Honey for letting me know what it was, as I was too busy dancing to come over & ask you myself 2

Popular Post Mike Posted January 3, 2014 Popular Post Posted January 3, 2014 Hi all, Well, its that time of year again It's 12 months since we did the last 'Top Tips' thread... so, as it's now a Soul Source tradition, which started in 2007, here we go again! Here's your opportunity to tip the tunes in your box for future greatness, during the forthcoming year... or simply list any number of records that you'd like to recommend to other Soul Sourcers. clipped can ask that all get back to the main thrust of the thread (top tips) and either drop the personal type exchanges or take them to personal messages thanks mike 4
jocko Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 https://youtu.be/R6Qjbxzl99Q back in ye oldene days when I was foolishly booked to play records to an unsuspecting public, this was something I spun occasionally and people danced. I've done my research and nobody has ever mentioned it in this forum and there is no googleable content of any other claims to it being 'massive' anywhere. It's a cheap LP on Buddah, and I think it's got the longest title of any record I own... 'God has blessed our hands... A musical tribute to a people's struggle for equality'. And most bizarrely, he's got Rance Allen playing guitar and not singing on it. so there cheers Sutty I put this on Refo Soul when I was in betwwen jobs, so that's 6 years ago. So you should just stick to jazz tips Mr S :-))) Funny enough I got this LP out off FOPP but it seems scarce, brother of Joey Negro's producer, a big gospel collector, Howard Livingstone I think, offered lots of money for this when I found it. 1
John Reed Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Not really unknown, but I'd like to see these played out more: Ernie Lucas - Nothing Can Seperate Me From Your Love - Okeh Ernie Shelby - Right Here Where You Left Me - Polydor James Govan - Wanted Lover - Fame Paul Vann - Soul Children - SS7 (I love the guitar) 2
KevH Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Fair point Kev - although it (the vocal) has been played in funk clubs for at least 10 years. Maybe new to this scene.... Oh,it started with "Soul for sale" instru, then the funk guys flipped it for "If the shoe fits" later. Maybe some things do cross from the dark side. And just maybe, its not that well known on the "new" funky scene. Lets hear some stomping NS from the in depth collectors.
Jordirip Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjwIudyLPQ4 I must admit I really like this Kev. The vocal ain't great but it's a good tune none the less with real nice instrumentation and cracking drumming. 1

Popular Post Reforee Posted January 3, 2014 Popular Post Posted January 3, 2014 Happy New & Soulful year to all Well Sean you seem to of brought out the best in the Soulies here mate................S.O.U.L. Sound Of Unity and Love Hows about you post last years suggestions up (as against 2007). and see how many made it, still remain to make it or remain rare/semi/unknown? I am pretty certain the depth and knowledge of collectors on here have more than a few tracks, even those semi known, that on the whole have still got to have their day even if known. I am not talking about old biggies/ semi known becoming popular again, but the little gems that you rate. A deep soul gem for me has been Walter Washington "The Sun don't shine" on 3 Oaks. Without blowing trumpets, played this last Soul Essence in Jim Wray Lounge and put it on a giveaway CD and it was received with mass acclaim if you count being asked about it, as Deep Soul goes. So if your into The slower stuff then check that out. Think its on my pod cast from radio show. Check 365soul.com on the radio show forum on here. Dave H 6

Dave H Good post Dave, I think most peoples perceptions of records "making it" on here is if it was played out to the masses and achieved dancefloor recognition, as far as I see it, if someone recommends something and there is a few who don't know it and love it, then for me its made it, dancefloor or not, great thread to check stuff out you might not know, just like the Record Club on here, I certainly love the slower side of soul, so realistically, Jim Wray lounge or Horse and Groom, Doncaster and Filthy are the only places I will here that kind of stuff (at a venue). Sure, records could have been played 10 years ago to a limited audience to minimal success, but a tip now might be a better time for that particular record to prosper, great thread IMHO, a great way to share records which is why I reckon Sean set the thread away in the first place Kev 10

Popular Post Jason S Posted January 3, 2014 Popular Post Posted January 3, 2014 Still sounding very good to my ears, this banger has been flying out at the latter end of 2013 - surely a sound for 2014. I'm sold out at the moment but have some on the way - probably my last copies. For £6 you can't fall off! Could be the next Kings Go Forth. The other side is fantastic as well...will upload that later. If you're after one you can pre-order one here 11

Roburt Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I quite like the Howeefeel "People Of The World" I picked up from Jason at the same time as the Valdons. If we're gonna recommend stuff like Howeefeel that has major input from the Davis Brothers, then I'd nominate a couple of cuts from Davis Import as well (Avi: late 70's / early 80's).

Yep no so keen on Howeefeel, but it's not shabby at all so lets put it in Sean's 2014 playbox - 3 down 97 to go. What about the new Lisa Stansfield?

What about the new Lisa Stansfield? It's not as good as the three I previously posted and not good enough IMO to make it to the dance floors. Lisa Stansfield......I thought it was an average pop song, nothing more, certainly can't see what the fuss is about. 2

But if you think I'm buying all this lot you've another thing coming ....And if I was interested for my own benefit I'd have asked for people to pm me their suggestions. As a matter of fact (for a number of reasons) I've pretty much given up both DeeJaying and collecting. Got a couple of dates to fulfill in the diary and then I'm offski! This is just a bit of fun I started 7 years ago which has became a bit of an annual tradition. We'll see if the thread can keep running with a few more suggestions (without anyone trying to pull the wheels off it) and then (if I get a mo) I'll put em all in a list and see how many it amounts to.
