Hi Russ

Do you mean the one Searling would have played covered up was quite rare then, because if it was then someone in Scandanavia has got a bargain. I had Searlings old copy came from Andy Spencer via Dave Knight.

What the differences then, just out of interest?

The originals are a very slightly different shade of label colour & there are differences in the credits. Danny Huff got these 10-12 yrs ago, maybe more. I saw the different copies together, so know this to be true, but my memory is not what it was, there was something about a band member/writer not getting mentioned on the label credits on the original press, so they were withdrawn & redone with the correct credits.

Can JM, Pete S or Chalky confirm this or have I imagined the whole thing, bunch of moustachioed hairy gits anyway.

BTW anyone remember Danny or seen anything of him, saw him at the 100 Club some years ago but not lately ????.

Surely the corrected issue is the original, and no reissue?,and the so called "original",just a mistake :D so why is the 1st corrected press not goodenough, :D why is it a reissue?,there are loads of mispelt records out there, all originals along with the ones with the correct spelt ones  unless the mis-spelt ones are special "Yorkshire" issues.

Personally Ken I dont care, dont even like the record, but its just one of those things that not many people seem to be aware of & I was just making sure Mark knew, he can then do what he likes. Maybe I have confused the situation with my choice of words ie issue, reissue, all I was doing was trying to make the difference between the two & generally speaking the first press is known as the 'original'. More than happy for you to make up your own names. All I was intending was for the information to be in the Public Domain, so buyers can make informed choices.

Hope thats ok with you ,you miseable git  .

That would be me!

Still got it and I also saved the letter with its history as I've learned to do watching the Swedish version of The Antiques Roadshow. whistling.gif

i've got a copy now, and i've compared it to another copy which has a slightly different label

the differences are:

one copy is heavier (ie: thicker) with darker blue print and the composer credits for thats the way are "Watkins Carnobi" - rather than "Reave Watkins", as on the one with the lighter blue print (both have grey label - very little difference in colour, if any)

both are pressed off the same plates btw

does anyone know which is the earliest issue?

The one I bought from Ted wich was the exact copy that Richard Searling had covered up at the casino has Reave Watkins in the credits so I guess that that was the first issue.

But as the record was pressed in the sixties but played in the seventies I can't be 100% sure.

Anybody know the history of the group / label?

The Q/Hound records were from New Orleans I think (sure I remember that from somewhere), can probably get some info off some local forum boards, or try somebody from offbeat magazine. The mag only started in 1988 but they have been trying to catalogue the history of the local music scene, rock, jazz, blues etc.

Having got one of these today, an 'original', it certainly does have a different, heavier feel to it than the other one and the colouring of the label and lettering is different too.

That's about right at the moment.

Reave Watkins seemed to have a big hand in The "Q" record.

I'd guess that he was this guy (though there are a few Reave Watkin's across the US even though it can't be that common a name) ..........

Reave M Watkins, 952 Bethany Tpke, Honesdale, PA 18431

The above guy probably originated in Pittsburgh (where quite a few Watkins still live) and seemed to spend his college years in the New Orleans area.

Might be worth contacting  him to check out if he is the right guy to get The "Q" info from.

Phone number removed and slight edit made to text to reflect this.

Although it is possible that this Reave Watkins was involved in the 45, it is by no means certain.

Imagine how miffed you would be if you started receiving unsolicited phone calls about something someone else did 40+ years ago.

so what we are actually saying is there are two differnt pressings of this... one with watkins carnobi and another credited to reave watkins.... both were  done in the late sixties and both are worth £150 ish......just to summerise

I'm a bit surprised the second press is worth as much as the first though..

This has left me somewhat confused (yes I know it's not hard)? All I know is I played my Reave Watkins copy at York last week.....to an empty floor :(
