First person I ever heard play that was Ian Clark at 100 Club.  Don't think it was around in the 70's, not as a big tune anyway

Also-definitely heard "The Kid" in the big room.

Surprised me when I heard it.

Richard Searling played The Kid in the main room on one occasion, when he'd just picked up a white demo copy. Judging by what I was doing and who I was hanging with at the time it will have probably been 1977 or early 78.  East Rob on here may also remember. I don't think I missed a week during those years and I'm sure it was never played again.

the Jades 'i'm where its at' was Richard Searling..and a wigan exclusive..he told me ''a guy offered it to me for £6, i bought it because it looked rare'..( im sure he played it first)..

Ian will know all about Lou Pride...didn't he give it to John Vincent?

Bought from Bob from Louth on a foggy Thursday night in Lincolnshire. Covered as James Lewis "I'm Coming Home" until some more copies came through after a few weeks.....

Kev McCaffery sold Richard Searling the Jades, but it was a bit more than £6.

Couple to clear up......

Lynne Randell(Mecca 1973 after the Torch had closed. Ian Levine). Never remember this at the Torch.

Joanne Courcey(Twirl) a failed Wigan spin in 1974. I found this in a Soul Pack from a Belper, Derbys newsagents along with Paula Durante-Your Not My Kind.

Happy New Year...... :D

Kev did you lend it to Ian or Colin to play at the Mecca (Joanne Courcey) because I have it on a tape from the Highland Room from March 74.

ann perry..i thought the inst was first played by Sam..as 'what soul is' Butch Baker..

I bought Sam's copy of this, there was abit of label damage from being covered up.

I can't remember. It was around the time I came back from LA and I was swimming in top drawer finds only to be outsmarted by the Javells, Gary Lewis etc. I then got into the Bobby Franklin, Snoopy Dean grooves and let some of my discoveries such as the Seven Souls slip away for pennies.

I certainly didn't hang onto JC for long!

I remember Sam's copy. Labels looked battered. I also made the mistake of stickering the Lou Pride mentioned above. After that I just thought 'f*ck it* I'd rather not cover stuff up and damage the labels.....

well on one Sunday morning summer '74..outside the Casino..i watched as you and your girlfriend came out and were carrying a holdall (one handle each) crammed with 45's..might that have been the same time?  i always wondered what records were stuffed in there..some beauties i bet!!!!!

the Kid ..was a well known soul/disco oldie..think i first heard it at a local disco or funfair around 1970...

Were it not a Wheel sound, seem to recall in B&S when Godin started his ''tell me your fave sound'' and everything started coming out the woodwork that it got a mention, and this were before, I think, the Torch or Wigan kicked off.

DEFFINETLY A WHEEL SOUND !!!!

Nope. Rob rang me before the gig to tell me he had something special for me. I think time has proved him right! Rob was always turning great records up. I'm sure he had an early in with Soul Bowl.

And Happy New Year to you too!

Sounds about right Godz, Richard was never too shy to play a nice minty British demo if he got hold of one.

I seem to remember him playing green & white Four Tops, Gladys Knight etc bang in the middle of his Saturday spots.

Happy New  Year Paul.

I've got some great letters I got from Rob Bellars between him and Levine about who is playing what which I will dig out when I'm back in the UK.

How about some forgotten underplayed sounds.
Mickey Laney...Dave Evison spin....was he the original player of this.?
Bobby Hebb..you want to change me....??
Linda Glass ...Before Love Beats Me Going?
Natural Four... I thought You were mine.Who ?? and which came first ABC or Boola.
