I remember being at the Manchester Ritz All-Nighter when news came through that Curtis Mayfield had died.

Can't remember what Impressions track got played when it was announced but the dance floor packed in respect.

 

What an influence to this scene he was, well done Curtis!

Absolutely massive influence on me throughout all the years,had a full size poster of the Curtis album advert (hassled the girl behind the counter in Fox's records till she gave in ) on my bedroom wall till i left home.This is taken from his last album and the first time i heard this especially when the special guest comes in right at the end,shivers ran down my spine once again.And he recorded this line by line whilst paralyzed from his 1990 accident.

I was at nottm palais, (kev roberts bank hol event) when the news was broadcast. A genius and a god. I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert twice, such a talent

Absolute musical genius, he is my all time favourite singer, songwriter, producer,label owner, would of loved to of met him as I have so many unanswered questions.

 

Hope I'm going to the same place he has gone when it's my time, that would be a musical place to die for.
