Stompingsevens Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Can anybody tell me which CDs the two Ray Agee - Soultown sides are on please. Thanks, Jesse 1
Markw Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I'm Losing Again is on For Millionaires Only Vol 3 (I think?).
Mal C Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 yep (3.For Millionaires Only), they were good CD's those... Very over rated 45, sure its a pretty nice track, rare and all that, and as were told worth a kings ransom, but if you had the cash, would it be a big want?
Stompingsevens Posted December 25, 2013 Author Posted December 25, 2013 Thanks, is the flipside on anything.........?

Guest SteveJohnston Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 It would for me Mal, it's up there with the very best tracks IMO
Mrtag Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I hope they will be dancin' to it at Burscough New Years Eve Bash!
Mal C Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 each to their own then, pretty bog std R&B track in my opinion... m
Ted Massey Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 each to their own then, pretty bog std R&B track in my opinion... m don't be soft 1
Peter99 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 (edited) It's ok - tec it or leave it me. Someone selling one on here at the moment isn't there? Peter Edited December 25, 2013 by Peter99
Frankie Crocker Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Awesome tune. One of the very best Northern tracks. Certainly in my top ten. Compare it to his Hard Working Man RnB track and there's a world of difference. 1
Premium Stuff Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I used to hate it and dismiss it as R&B. One day I listened to it and my ears opened. Great band, great drums, great vocals, great tempo, great brass. It actually starts R&B and gets more Northern as it goes along. I can see why it's a big record and commands a big ticket price. Cheers Richard 2

Julianb Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 I hope they will be dancin' to it at Burscough New Years Eve Bash! Hope you are not going to sell it before then For anyone wondering what this means, please check 'wants' on here. 1
Julianb Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 First time I heard this was at Sheridans when Tim Brown played it ( I was away from the scene 1974 -1998) so it was new to me. Went to my number one want that very night. Got one now - onto my next number one want 1
Popular Post Ted Massey Posted December 25, 2013 Popular Post Posted December 25, 2013 Ive had it since 1988 and played it at every opportunity since then, often get a rush to the floor at the first few bars even in the main room at Kings Hall 4
Quinvy Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I like the record and it looks great, but I find it impossible to dance to, so I've never lusted after it. 1
Guest chorleybloke Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I like the record and it looks great, but I find it impossible to dance to, so I've never lusted after it. Always been a top 10 want, although I have to agree with Phil in that it's just a tad too fast for a dancefloor full of 50+ year olds. Wouldn't stop me breaking the bank if one came up for sale though.
Guest normokeh Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 (edited) each to their own then, pretty bog std R&B track in my opinion... m you have been sleep all your life lol top notch northern Edited December 26, 2013 by normokeh
Prophonics 2029 Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Great to dance to, have a Ray Agee CD but would have to dig it out to see if the B sides on it.
Mace Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Another lookalike on its way then.....though would have thought this was still within the 50 year rule.....when was it released?
Markw Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Another lookalike on its way then.....though would have thought this was still within the 50 year rule.....when was it released? Interesting comment..........
Mrtag Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Hope you are not going to sell it before then For anyone wondering what this means, please check 'wants' on here. Hi Julian, It won't be going anywhere except to be played at Burscough New Years Eve Bash !! After that it 's up to the purchaser! Atb John.
Cunnie Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Some of you might want to cast a glance over post 134 & also post 147 on this thread before you jump to any conclusions.
Ted Massey Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Ok who is going to sell their supposed boot leg then don't think I would take the risk, load of rubbish this conjecture imo 1
Mal C Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 you have been sleep all your life lol top notch northern certainly not, Ive got impeccable taste in Music, with some frothy pop thrown in... 1
Chalky Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Some of you might want to cast a glance over post 134 & also post 147 on this thread before you jump to any conclusions. A mate once told me after he met Ray Agee that he wasn't aware the 45 had been released. I doubt it was a bootleg and as I said in the topic in the link it wouldn't be the first time a record was released without the artists knowledge or consent. 1

Not suggesting for a second that it's a bootleg & that's why I quoted Ted's reply as well as the post that said it was a boot. Just thought it might be of interest. PS, in the highly unlikely event that it does turn out to be a bootleg I'll give you £50 for it Ted 1
Guest Tom Walsh Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I hope they will be dancin' to it at Burscough New Years Eve Bash! I will be playing mine at Hinckley this Saturday 28th!!!!!!!
Cunnie Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I will be playing mine at Hinckley this Saturday 28th!!!!!!! By some strange coincidence that's where we're heading on Saturday so look forwards to hearing it played. My poor old limbs are past dancing to it these day's though so I'll be nodding my head in approval somewhere

Very over rated 45, sure its a pretty nice track, rare and all that, and as were told worth a kings ransom, but if you had the cash, would it be a big want? Mal, its an awesome tune... 90% Northern 10% r&b... One of the anthem tunes! You are a young-ish fellow... it'll grow on you
Dobber Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 The scene always has and always will have/need its vinyl grails(heroes),and the ray agee is defo in the top 10! It takes a long time for a record to reach such stature, and this one is well suited, and aint goin knowwhere! 1

Chalky Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I'm sure Tim Brown said that Ray Agee said it wasn't him on the record. He may well have said he wasn't aware of the 45/recording, was a long time ago when it was talked about. I don't remember him saying explicitly that it wasn't him though. I guess we will never know for sure.
Guest wigan bob Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I'm sure Tim Brown said that Ray Agee said it wasn't him on the record. thats what ray said to rob thomas also 1
Labeat Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I'm sure Tim Brown said that Ray Agee said it wasn't him on the record. Well whoever is the artist has a quite distinctive voice, unique in fact as is Bobby Bland!
Chalky Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 If it is RA it wouldn't be the first time that an artist has completely forgotten about something recorded back in the 60's
Popular Post Mace Posted December 26, 2013 Popular Post Posted December 26, 2013 It's actually Donnie Elbert pitched down at -28 and originally pressed on Rumoursville Records. I know this for a fact cus I read it on www-letstalkbollix.co.fantasyisland 5

Mace Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Only worth looking for if your deck (or the decks you DJ on) have got the facility to pitch at -28. Tim Brown told me Quinvy once had one but couldn't remember what he did with it. 1
Petebangor Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Remember this getting plays late days of Wigan, covered as James Conwell. Was it A Searling play or Rushbrooke, or both? great tune, always loved it 1
Chalky Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 Remember this getting plays late days of Wigan, covered as James Conwell. Was it A Searling play or Rushbrooke, or both? great tune, always loved it Didn't Dave Raistrick find/play it first? 1
Labeat Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 If it is RA it wouldn't be the first time that an artist has completely forgotten about something recorded back in the 60's Ha, your right there Chalky, most of the 60's artists who are tracked down (and asked to appear live over here) often need to listen to tapes/cd,s of their own recordings....bless em
Godzilla Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 I'm sure Tim Brown said that Ray Agee said it wasn't him on the record. Well if it's not him, whoever it was must have also recorded those sides on Celeste, Highland, Krafton, Shirley etc because they all sound like the same voice for sure.
Frankie Crocker Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 He may well have said he wasn't aware of the 45/recording, was a long time ago when it was talked about. I don't remember him saying explicitly that it wasn't him though. I guess we will never know for sure. The release of Hard Working Man on Jewel sounds like I'm Losing Again in embryo stage. Ray Agee was a prolific artist and swapped labels enough times to lose track of his output. The Soultown release may well have occurred without his knowledge but I doubt he ever denied performing the song. Whatever the truth, Ray has given us a truly brilliant masterpiece. Anyone know the facts about the LA Soultown label as it has a couple of big tunes, several common ones and a range of bootlegs?

Benji Posted December 26, 2013 Posted December 26, 2013 So, looks like it's one the top 5 marmite records? I despised it when I heard it the first time (was on tape) and never rated it much ever since. Well, one day I heard it at a do and it blew me away. Great record when played out...
