Tommy1 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Can't figure out what year this was released, anyone?
Guest trickbag Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 3002 Harvey Scales and the Seven Seas "Trying to survive / Bump your thang" The A side is one of the best soul releases on the label, mixing successfully a hard funk riff with a dance beat, on an effective tale of hardship with Scales questioning the inequalities of our society. At the chorus he breaks into a Curtis Mayfield style of vocal delivery, and I am surprised this has not been played more. Flip captures the "Bump" style popular in discos in 1975. ricky.
Jordirip Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 I would guess '75/ '76/ but sounding earlier, possibly a reason for it not being picked up on at the time of release, not fashionable or current enough. Just a theory,
boba Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 agreeing with the above, has to be '75-'76 given the bump flip. i will ask harvey the next time i talk to him. 1
Steve G Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 Yes 75-76 fits in with the other Magic Touch releases in the 3000 series...
Tommy1 Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 agreeing with the above, has to be '75-'76 given the bump flip. i will ask harvey the next time i talk to him. Thanks all of you! The reason I put 1972/3 is cos of the lyrics, they "fit" those years. I have not heard the flip so I believe you, but please ask him Bob!
Peter99 Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 It's a cracking record whatever the year. Peter 2
