Rodders22 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Just thinking what sounds would you play to spice up a set away from the norm. My lad played TRAVELING MAN by JOE SIMON at Blackpool Tower in November on the Sunday, When down a STORM. Lot of People didn't no it. Must be so many out there. Thanks and MERRY XMAS. ROD 3

Very good point Matt but not everyone can do niters, the idea was to see what people rate themselves i:e as not heard before or just not played for a long time and should be. when I've put alldayers on I'm always happy when a Dj puts a track I have to think about. I'm never to old to learn. Thanks mate Rod.

Rodders22 Posted December 17, 2013 Author Posted December 17, 2013 Personally, If all there was out there were the 500 nights I would've given up 30 years ago, the whole point of going out is to hear stuff I ain't heard, or forgotten. The beauty of soul is that you never stop being educated to new stuff or whats the point I like this point as well! You're right Matt. In fact there's been nighters, Dayers, soul nights and weekenders over 3 decades which have broken the 500 mould. It's just that many choose to ignore this fact (not meaning the topic starter).

You must be about the same age as me too, your the same as me and probably take great delight in hearing something new to you. thanks again mate Rod. Rod, I'm not sure you understood my point. I meant if I wanted to hear new things, which I always do, I wouldn't go to Blackpool and wait for someone to slip an underplayed record into an oldies spot, I'd go to an upfront night where the underplayed is the norm. For example, Top of the Stairs room at Gloucester on Saturday. To answer your question, what would I play to shake things up? Maybe this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7AVMUC6PMA Edited December 17, 2013 by Matt Male

Anyway that's a different thread altogether. Here's another Joe Simon that got a bit of mainroom action a while back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSiSDyxbQtE Edited December 17, 2013 by Matt Male

So many great Joe Simon tracks out there!and one that I didn't know: We're Together from 1981; great tune. Two tunes that I do have are Momma's Gone -Little"Johnny Blair ( which gets a mention in Tim Browns book The Wigan Casino Years) and :Bobby Wells-Be's That Way Sometimes. Which I think is better than : Let's Copp A Groove. Finally !What can you say about :Gene Toones;; One word BRILLIANT. Ps WHEN by JOE SIMON is my favourite song of his. Keep Soulin . ROD
