Would The Title Of A Record Put You Off From Playing It

I like a record called HEAVY MUSIC by BOB SEGAR AND THE LAST HEARD. Played it out a few times to a good reception from the crowd, been told it was played at casino early 70s. This raw type of northern soul seems to be in demand to date. Soulies can't believe it when you say Title and Artist. I like it anyway. Any more out there. Rod

You'd expect it to be typical US garage punk circa 66.  Well I would anyway.

Thanks for that Pete, agree with similarity with Mitch Ryder.I read somewhere that in a interview with Bruce Springsteen he had said that Mitch Ryder was his inspiration with the Detroit Garage scene. Going back to off putting title's what about ALL THE DUDES WHERE DANCING BY THE MOB Again ,not a bad record ? It's a 70s thing. Rod

Funnily enough, I just mentioned this is another thread, but Lou Pride's "I'm Comun' Home In The Morn'un" totally put me off 'cos it sounded like the sort of title a redneck shitkicker would use, so I abbreviated it to "I'm Coming Home" - James Lewis mainly because the original title was too much of a mouthful.......

I bought a record from Sousann after the usual "ignore the title" spiel back in the 70's. I knew it wasn't really right for playing but i agreed with him that it has "something". Maybe 20+ years later rummaging through some old boxes I found it out again, covered it up and had decent success with it at Albrighton.

The proper name was something like -
"They Had A Party At The Watergate" and how corny can you get, it was by "The Revealers". I bet old Dickie Nixon thought it was a peach , ahem, I'll get my coat

I was only a bit of a kid when I first heard it played, don't suppose I knew to much about Soul Music then.as time's gone by I've learn't to listen and enjoy my music. Thanks for your wisdom. Rod

Heavy Music use to get played at The Wheel with The Human Beinz around 1969/70 and other Mitch Ryder stuff.

I have always loved Girl with the Big Black Boots by the Paramounts. Very early Wigan spin but never heard it anywhere since. I always thought the title stopped it getting spins. Really atmospheric record at a packed nighter

Including this one. Its a brilliant dance number with distinctive weirdness, and a memorable spin for DJs with cajones. Love hearing that beast of a tune out / wish

and it must be the first time I've listened to that track this century, one of the first records I ever aquired, 1972 ish I think, but still got it and suprisingly I think it still plays ... ?!?!? 

was well beat up when I got me hands on it, and I can't say I've treated it with that much respect over the years

 

I was amazed how clear the sound on the youtube vid is .... have to dig my copy out and try and make out the tune & lyrics over all the crackles and pops ........

Peanut duck sounds a bit twatish Hawaii 5 o also , theme from joe 90 although I love the program and theme would put me off these titles would put me off further investigation. Also despite the time of year I'd not like to investigate loneliest Christmas tree, this also sounds judging by the title one of those tracks aimed at the suicide at Christmas type mob.
