Thanks Simon. :D

Was Dave Thorley the only one with it I wonder?

Was it played before Stafford? And has anyone heard it out since?

Think Dave Thorley was the only person with it, certainly only remember him playing it at Stafford. Was covered as Detroit something or others! Same backing track as 'Like My Baby' and superb ph34r.gif

Don't DJ at many northern nights any more Ian (probably because i play things like the Paul Varley track that's on another thread ph34r.gif ) but on the odd time i do a northern spot i try to fit this in somewhere. Great record.

Got a spare copy you can have for £15 & i'll even chuck in a copy of our latest Modernism CD if you want it. Send us a pm if you're interested.

Originally played by Dave Thorley at Stafford as the Detroit Five, the test pressing credited to George "We're In A Rat Race"/"Oh No Not Me" Atac 2830 brought back by Gilly and sold to Ion, later went to Butch then Dave Flynn which looks like the one on Johns rarest of the rare, enough I'll get me pipe

And this ... ?

on Do De Re, with "Gino Is A Puppet" on the other side which came out on at least 4 labels including Ric-Tic and Son-Bert (though not with the inst.), played a lot upstairs at Stafford by George Sharp, if I'm not mistaken? boring as instrumentals go, even if you're off your head!

Both a superb. Agree that 'like my baby' edges it tho.

Another with the other 350 in my Stafford top ten.

According to the sleeve notes on the "Love Bandit" Album:-

"In 1969, Gino employed the Three Year old backing tracks to "Like My Baby" and reworked it as "Rat Race", seemingly an observation on the turbulent changing times "Actually the reason I did that record was it was a commentary on the entertainment business and how people double cross you. They went to the Moon but what did they find? It didn't come out until the Eighties when we issued it in England."

I got vinyl test press of "Rat Race"

deadwax matrix reads Atac 2830 A Sound Patterns DXM mastering Detroit first.

Flipside is Oh Not Me (vocal) matrix reads AT2878A 243 GM East Det. This side was pressed Off-center so if looks like it was due for release then got shelved.

With Oh not me getting released on # 2878 with Hey I'm A Love Bandit as the flip.

Which is EXACTLY the same master plate as the flip to Rat Race.
