Dayo Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 (edited) Just curious if anyone else knows this tune? Has it ever been played out? What do we think? Tune or turkey? MP3 removed at mods request. https://soundcloud.com/thurston-day/talking-bout-you-girl Edited December 7, 2013 by mike
Pete S Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Thurston Day, legendary Bromsgrove soul man Good that is mate, sounds like a contemporary recording though, with a retro sound?
Autumnstoned Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 That's not bad. Brass fills reminiscent of The Snake to these ears ( not good ) and could do with some backing vocals. An 8 out of 10 job. 1
Winnie :-) Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Just curious if anyone else knows this tune? Has it ever been played out? https://soundcloud.com/thurston-day/talking-bout-you-girl What do we think? Tune or turkey? First impressions, I liked it, is there any info on it other than the Thurston Day thing?
Dayo Posted December 5, 2013 Author Posted December 5, 2013 (edited) Oh - don't want to mislead anyone; it's not by "Thurston Day" - I simply used the company sound cloud account - Thurston Day Ltd. Took it down from soundcloud and replaced it with an MP3 I do know who it's by, but I'm not saying at the moment. Edited December 5, 2013 by Dayo

Pete S Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Sounds like it was made in the 90's? I said that
NEV Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I said that Reminds me of that old joke Pete .." doctor ,doctor ,everybody seems to be ignoring me" ... next ! Sounds like Huey Lewis and the news on first listen 2
NEV Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Just curious if anyone else knows this tune? Has it ever been played out? Talking bout you girl.mp3 What do we think? Tune or turkey? Not the best idea to upload a mp3 on SS though
Pete S Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 Sounds like it was made in the 90's? I'm thinking it's either a recently i.e. maybe 10 years old maximum tune, or one that's not been released yet, but I don't think it's a vintage track. 1

I thought i'd play it safe and say 90's ,but think you are nearer the truth .. so its probably a track from a chart artist that was from a cd but not a hit record .. Dayo was listening to his CD and thought hey ..this has a nice "northern soul " type sound That said ,i did cheat and use Shazam ,but it did'nt yield a result ,so that probably blows my theory
Steve Ss Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 not the worst 3 minutes of my life..... if I had to speculate I would say Terence Trent whats his face Is it the song for the new X Factor winner?
Winnie :-) Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I can imagine John Miles singing it, but it sounds a little bit like Bryan Adams as well

Quinvy Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 It's better than 99% of the stuff put up on this forum by folk saying "this is a fantastic cheapie" and can't understand why this isn't huge. At least it's got a dance beat. 1
Dayo Posted December 5, 2013 Author Posted December 5, 2013 (edited) Took the mp3 down as admin are right, there may be copyright issues. Truth is, it's library music. There's a whole CD of pastiche Northern tracks available to broadcasters and production companies. Anyone recall the KPM lounge funk stuff that became quite sought after on the rare groove scene? Then you've got the picture. I enjoyed the brass though! Edited December 6, 2013 by Dayo 1

Guest john s Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 " "Retro Soul is a collection of brand new classics straight from the sweaty northern soul venues of yesteryear. This wall-of-sound-inspired retro pop will make you wanna do the Mashed Potato via Funkytown, USA. Retro Soul is a fresh, modern twist on soul classic sounds you can really shake your tailfeathers to." yep, whatever!
