Apaches Trying To Make Ends Meet C/w Just Another Lazy Day

Killer street level 1972 Deep FUNK adorned with a gorgeous vocal-group harmony Northern Soul Crossover flipside.

Topside first.

Earl “Sixtoe” English production that is considered a timeless Funk-Grail on the Six Toe label and has filled the Deep-Funk dancefloors for an age, and now at last breaking through into the “upfront” Northern Soul venues as it’s rhythmic power and relentless attitude sits perfectly into the “Lifeline” style all nighter.

The flipside (not on the SIX TOE release) we consider perfect for venues like Soul Essence & The Orwell etc or any other event were there’s a quality control consideration before the stylus in dropped.

Two stand-out sides on one very elusive disc - vinyl has some light surface marks - but as you can hear plays beautifully clean clear & true.

Paris Sleepless Nights C/w Wishing Well

Power, Power and more Power not only from Paris’s gargantuan vocal but also from the studio technicians gathered in the Los Angeles studio, autumn of 1964.

Chester & Gary Pipkin, Marc Gordon, Frank Wilson and Jerry Long all conspired to craft this extra-special Northern Soul 45. Embellishing Mr. Tears booming vocal with a shrill girl-group choir, blaring horns, spine-tingling’ vibes as the recording links one crescendo after another.

Seldom can you hear all components of an arrangement swell up to hit you in the face as much as this mighty tune does. Like an unstoppable avalanche of soul, the five studio-doyens of L.A. fabricate what is arguably THE most-powerful recording to ever grace a Northern Soul turntable!

Listen and resist if you can..

Al Kent You Gotta Pay The Price

Time for the seriously dedicated British Tamla Motown completest to stamp their claim.

Never ever issued in the UK on a TMG number, but the EMI executives must have seriously thought about it, as Laura Lee, J. J. Barnes, San Remo Strings & Edwin Starr had already enjoyed successful UK outings.

This single sided acetate is date stamped 9 June 1972 slightly after the tracks inclusion on the successful Tamla Motown stml11232 “Ric-Tic Relics! album.

Well they thought about but it never happened. This in-house acetate is most probably UNIQUE and utterly essential if like so many out there - dedicated to acquiring the best British Tamla Motown collection possible.

Billy Stewart Unbelievable

Pure self indulgence, Billy Stewart is one of mine and perhaps everybody’s favourite Soul singer, a life cut short in the prime of his career but never to be forgotten for his unique voice and outrageous delivery.

So sample a truly gifted artist and his accomplished way of serving up even the most unlikely soul song and making it sound utterly irresistible. On this album Billy sets about redefining the 50s classic ballads, giving them a new voice and meaning.

Listen why, in the world today there are no Billy Stewart impersonator ..he was and still is a one-off.

This album is the rarely witnessed 1966 British press which still retains the original inner sleeve, two perfect labels, totally unblemished vinyl. Cover has a couple of ultra-light corner “bumps” and one red marker line of the back cover (see scans).

A crucial LP in fine, fine condition demonstrating a Soul-Genius at play…

Metros Time Changes Things

so many awesome tracks we could easily have sound-filed the whole LP..but that is no surprise - PIED PIPER never did a bad track - did they?

This journey into the non-commercial side of 60s Detroit Soul is more than magical, it showcases what Northern Soul is all about, seeking out the very best of the best, that never hit home with the public.

PIED PIPER in my humble opinion were the greatest team to ever record Soul Music and for a short time in the sixties produced the very finest 60s dance soul imaginable.

This album allows you into the world of those geniuses that unfortunately weren’t appreciated during their time.

Sad, but it does give the collector some masterpieces to chase - and this album is a real-masterpiece of Northern Soul.

Fats Domino If You Don't Know What Love Is

a gleaming impeccable 1964 British Red & White DEMO!

Somehow overlooked in the 60s, passed over by the Northern Soul scene through the 70s & 80s. But to rise up during the 90s Northern Soul R&B revolution this horn propelled growling mid-tempo became so very popular - but invariably played from the 1964 USA ABC 10545 release.

The British HMV release was a tricky disc to find - as a Red & White DEMO very, very tricky. In this completely unblemished condition impossibly tricky.

One for the British ” Condition-neurotic” Red & White addicts!

Baby Dolls He's Coming Home C/w There You Are

What a very impressive mid-60s Liz Bacone sessions from Philadelphia Girl-group Northern Soul this is, one that I’ve never heard before - We’re guessing it was unissued as something as good as this would surely have been jumped-on by the Northern Soul DJ decades ago.

Not overlooking the Kenny Gamble aided composition on the flipside, a complete eyebrow raising harmony ballad from the top drawer!

This perhaps unique acetate is sat in the “Vinyl-Home for lost treasures” awaiting a NS DJ to flaunt it to the world. It’s instant Northern Soul dance intro leads the way for lush tight harmonies to ride a fantastic chugging (Bobby Martin?) production, a heady mix of girl-group lead, backed by rich male-vocal harmony decoration.

Flip it for a ballad that rivals and surpasses any of the very best sister-harmony-ballads I’ve ever heard…utterly heartbreaking “Arlene Smith” inspiredl lead, begs her way into your aorta to relentlessly tug at at your inner feelings - SUPERB, absolutely superb.

Two great sides we personally know nothing about - except both are decidedly brilliant..and come out of Philly with the flipside later being remixed as an all girl-group vocal in 1968 to appear on Gamble 213.

This double hitter we feel was UNISSUED unless someone knows different…

Charts Livin' The Nightlife C/w Nobody Made You Love Me

Vibrant, uplifting 1966 New York vocal-group Northern Soul that has remained dog-rare for near 4 decades, even though it came to the publics atention with it’s inclusion by Ian Levine in 1974 on the Pye Disco Demand album “SOLID SOUL SENSATIONS:” it is in fact, by far the rarest recording on that now historical listing.

Proper real-deal 100% classic style backdrop Northern Soul that never quite reached monster status again rarity suffocating it’s awareness.

Today, it is the then neglected and arguably far superior flip side that is making all the ripples around the scene; as the more subtle mid-pacer is now the in-vogue style.

Both sides are magnificent examples of our music - one is full-on Northern Soul, with a flipside so classy you could dance to it all night to it - a NS shuffler right up there with the greatest.

Eryke & Arronette Where Are You C/w

Well you would think on this label this 45 cannot be too rare - THINK AGAIN!

ONLY available as the never-seen listed STOCK copy.

From the same gathering that gave us just 70s dance-delights as Jeff Perry - Love Don’t Come No Stronger - etc. comes another decidedly delicious tune in the form of this duet primarily crafted by Kenny Stover.

Take a listen and prepare yourself for a love-affair with 70s soulful rare groove, carrying only a hint of the era’s disco-influences, as the horns lift it out and away from the obvious, the contrasting lead vocals ricocheting of each other as the weave through the polished arrangement - love it!

Sheer quality - soulful dance at it’s BEST!

The extremely Rare first local Los Angeles release before it’s yellow London distributed outing.

A wild totally rampart R&B experience, explosive fury of Cosmo snarling vocal is supported by relentless double-entry bluesy guitar work including impressive instrumental breaks that give relief to Cosmo’s attitude-riddled defiant stance.

An instantaneous dancefloor destroying New-Breed R&B shaker, in by far it’s rarest clothes and in flawless condition.

Johnny Summers I'm Still Yours C/w Prove It To Me

From the golden era when Northern Soul slipped underground as the NS masses disappeared into housing estate front room surrounded by kids & bills.

A dedicated band of men with better things to do than get married, carried on the search for ” Lost Soul vinyl” and came up with some real beauties, records that would stand the test of time and still sound as crisp today, as they did during the underground 80s period.

This is one such tune - a Los Angeles killer arranged by the highly honed skills of Miles Grayson (a producer with a very impressive NS Curriculum Vitae) as he guides Johnny’s whiskey-worn vocal through this potent mid-tempo dancer littered with gorgeously pitch girl-group chorus.

THIS IS CLASS !

Even though the label owner has long since found and stripped, this record has remained RARE throughout. Huge pedigree and future rarity assured!

Surprised this went for what must be at least double it's value.

Not even it's rarest format (imo) as seen far more 7" copy's than 12" copy's.

i don't see the big deal in universal love going for 200 pounds versus 100 pounds. someone who can afford it dropping an extra 100 pounds to get a record is not that big of a deal. it's not like a 4 figure record going to 5x it's normal value or something.

Bob, where I live 100 pounds is a considerable amount of money.

it is where I live too, but I also live in this crazy world of soul collectors where kids in their early 20s who are not rich are splashing out 4 figures on a 7" piece of vinyl because other people get them excited about it. it's all relative. you know how many TVs and Playstations people could be buying instead of single records they buy on here?
