Northern Soul Uk Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 (edited) As an alternative to the Larry Clinton monster, I quite like the Eddie Holman version of 'She's wanted' Does anyone know the origins of this version? Was it an album only track or was it released on 7" before the 'Grapevine' release? and if so what label? Thanks Edited December 3, 2013 by Northern Soul UK 1
Soul-slider Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I only know it from the Grapevine 45. It's definitely not on the Goldmine/Soul suppl L.P that came out several years ago featuring a lot of his unissued stuff.

TheBigO Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I've always assumed it was the demo that Eddie did given that he co-wrote it so it wasn't intended to be released (I guess). 1
Guest Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I love the instrumental version...has that gained a legal issue? 1
davidwapples Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 not heard the instrumental in ages , had 3/4 of it on a cd or podcast somewhere that ive managed to lose
Northern Soul Uk Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 Wonder where it came from originally then? Master tape maybe? def' can't see it on any of his albums.
Swifty Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 (edited) Wonder where it came from originally then? Master tape maybe? def' can't see it on any of his albums. Didn't Andy Rix & Rob Thomas find this or am I dreaming (pissed) again ? Andy mate , where are you ? Swifty p.s. sure I've seen some footage of Eddie singing whilst the acetate was playing , not sure if it wasn't at the same time they found 'World of happiness' ???? Edited December 3, 2013 by SWIFTY
Supercorsa Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I've got this on "Soul Beat" single, bought on the scooter scene during the 80's. Think it might be Sister Sledge, Ronnie Dyson or Detroit Prophets version of Suspicion on the other side. Not too sure which as have 2 records on that label (cough - dubious origins - ) from then.

Yes ... got it from Eddie on a 8" Virtue acetate Andy

Different tune, you're talking about 'Where I'm Not Wanted'. This is about 'She's Wanted In Three States'...
Peter99 Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 (edited) Proper Northern tune. In fact it's a storming northern tune. Innit. Peter Edited December 3, 2013 by Peter99 1
Northern Soul Uk Posted December 3, 2013 Author Posted December 3, 2013 So I take it from comments that the only way to get this is on 'Grapevine' then? Was hoping it might be an unreleased album track, Shame!
Supercorsa Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Different tune, you're talking about 'Where I'm Not Wanted'. This is about 'She's Wanted In Three States'... D'oh! 2
Ralf Mehnert Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 I have an old Video tape somewhere where he performed She`s wanted on stage. It was in Stafford I think.
Soulman Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Sorry folks, am I missing something here. I dont recall Eddie Holman getting a Grapevine release of "She's Wanted In Three States"... only the Larry Clinton version. Eddie certainly has performed it in the UK as I have it on video but as per previous comment along the same lines... I wouldnt have a clue where it is. Please clearthis up with a definitive answer as I think I'm losing my marbles Steve
Supercorsa Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 https://www.discogs.com/label/Grapevine%202000 No. 150 on list.
Soulman Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Aaaahhh... Grapevine 2000, now I didn't think of that series and in fact its the one series I didn't collect. Thank you Mr Supercorsa... I can sleep soundly now Steve
Northern Soul Uk Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Actually interesting that is say's (RE) at the side of it? Imagining that means Re-Release, in turn meaning that it has been release perviously? Which begs the question when, and what on?
Marc Forrest Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 theres two versions by eddie holman, the one on grapevine and a better one.. 2
Peter99 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 theres two versions by eddie holman, the one on grapevine and a better one.. That's really helpful Marc. A better one! Peter

Northern Soul Uk Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Well just had to buy the Grapevine copy, from a guy in France for £12.99. I think the 'EH' version is excellent and the inst' in on the 'B' side too I believe so bonus!
Ralf Mehnert Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 didnt he sing it at lowton, 1999/200Maybe, but mine is much older. Mid 80s.
Ion T Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Maybe, but mine is much older. Mid 80s. Hi, Eddie sang 'She's Wanted' at Stafford. I was not a great fan of live acts but he was amazing. I was looking through records and not concentrating when he started his set and it took me about 20 seconds to realise it was not a DJ playing 'I Surrender'. One of the truly distinctive and great soul voices in my book. Regards Ion 2
Calvinlee Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 didnt he sing it at lowton, 1999/200 Yes kev murphy bought him over from the states ive heard many a story lol.... kev owns eddie holmans larry clinton red issue
Liamgp Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYEGteLbxYU A great performance! And the Mod girl in the orange mini-dress wasn't bad either. Any Stafford Lorraine Chandler or Popcorn Wylie footage out there? Edited April 13, 2014 by ElGeePee
Winsford Soul Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 didnt he sing it at lowton, 1999/200 When Eddie Holman performed at Lowton backed by four members of the Liverpool Philharmonic orchestra it to my mind redefined live acts. It was the greatest performance that I've seen of any live act. Think it was about ninety minutes of unbelievable pure emotion. He described how every record that he performed came about, who he wrote it for. Hey there lonely girl was just like listening to the 45. I surrender, so special. Wanted in three states. WOW. Where I'm not wanted. You just had to be there. I can't describe the night, no words could do it justice. Steve 1
