These aren't my records that have been stolen, i'm simply putting up this information here for him!

Don't know the guy but feel for him. Had some records go missing myself, its not nice! Most things have been covered in previous posts likewe all know when where and who from we bought a certain tune, the person(if you can call em that) will probably want to move them on, but some people will want a bargain unfortunately and wont care where it came from. Don't know about other people but theres not a lot on the scene who know where I live so that's got to be a starting point. hope he gets information to get his records back and I hope the c..t that took em gets whats coming to them.

Everyone wants /hopes the records turn up and undoubtedly it's a shithouse thing to do .....but look at the POSITIVE  thing ....Steve Smith whoever you are, offering to give some of your few remaining tunes to help !!!!!! The soul scene never changes,there always were thieving bastards about, really hope Melv gets his records back first, then look out for a deserved kicking.

The  sad thing is, already plenty of people will know where they are and who has them, there will always be a market for stolen records because thats the way it always has been

just hard to prove.

 

Even worse, when it blows over the same thieving bastards will be welcomed back on the scene with open arms, who could buy records and not tell anybody about their"new" sounds? and nearly everybody says where they got them from

 

Although i haven´t seen Melv for many a year i know what a sound and genuine bloke he is ,i for one wouldn´t want to  touch one of these records!

Good chance the person is not a regular record dealer, or DJ, but some one who now has a few grands worth of tunes, but needs to turn them into cash - Maybe a reward for information - no questions asked - very strong chance that people will be offered these tunes. It's all very well getting insurance on your records to claim your money back...but, think of the effort to get hold of the records in the first place, Melvin probably went out of his way to get some of those, to me, that is worth more than anything, it woul,d of took him a life time to get hold of them...

 

There is also the fact of him not trusting people on the scene like he used too...i wcertainly wouldn't trust many people unless i knew them like family....

as theyre nicked from house i would have thought the police would need to be involved.were the records cherry picked or did they just grab a box.If the latter they might not fully realise what they have so i would check all second hand shops,car boots etc.Long shot i know but worth a try. Anyway tell the police, it cant hurt to.

Collections usually never come easy, same for all of us. I'd rather have an insurance payout and no records than no records and no payout though.

I'm speechless and saddened that this would happen to anyone on the soul scene.  I have a very meagre collection from donkeys years ago.  I'm not a collector and really don't have much use for them.  None worth very much (I don't think) but I do have The Gems on Riverside, I think it's a white label, a "Demo" and probably not worth a jot, but I'd be happy to donate it if it's any use?  No worries if not.

Iam not a record dealer,,,BUT as most know I do buy and sell records at most of the venues I attend as a DJ or punter,,im certainly going to print a copy of the items stolen,,, And im certainly gonna be aware of what I buy or trade over the next few months as this lot could be filtered a bit at a time as im sure the thief is well aware all the honest people are on the case!!

Mel is a friend ,, im gutted for him,, his record sales are ALWAYS great value, superb condition,and hes a lovely fella,,, but my god like Rob say,, the thief may be in for a shock if exposed

These records have been nicked by someone Mel knows or has been to his house. I'm certain Mel must know them or has told them where he lives. Mel I'm sorry to hear this news mate. Where are you based ? are the records in dj box's or cardboard box's and are the sleeves new ?. Big question is Who's next ? if we now have specialist thieves in our circle we should all start thinking about making our collection safer. I dont even keep my records at my house any more for that very reason TBH, I have a very small selection of a handful of recent buys, that are by the decks n thats it these days...all my records are marked anyway & not in any obvious way either...
