Hip Hip HOORAY!! Lets give a big round of applause to welcome the new stars of Penniman: The Limboos.
Like all our bands, you can bet they are young, beautiful, technically gifted and can brag that they have something other bands don't have, something MANDATORY to succeed in this business: their own van!
The Limboos were born a little less than a year ago with the humble intention to give some color to R & R scene of their adopted city, Madrid. Mission accomplished! Their sound, aptly described as "Exotic Rhythm and Blues", is a reflection of their obsession with the best black music of the 50s and a passion and exuberance for the development of the rich exotic flavors from countries with low or no democratic tradition. While it all sounds like fun, their songs and live shows are a serious matter to be reckoned with.

For this single -- their debut recording, the group has chosen to present a slab of greasy R & B on the A side. This is coupled with a B side instrumental that could only be described as "Intergalactic Cubanismo" and very well might shock Mickey Baker and leave him fleeing for his rocket ship to escape to Havana . By the way, Penniman catalog (through the subsidiary Jerome Records) includes monster Rhythm and Blues reissues as early Ike Turner (as session man / band leader-producer), Little Richard in his Peacock days (with Johnny Otis Orch.) or Bo Diddley as a session man too, to name a few... Hey! We had a blast in this Purple Weekend. Anyone who went to Leon this year? 

I had the honour to play with La La Brooks (The Crystals) with one my other bands, The Allnight Workers, and it was fantastic. We even played this TOP R&B side, and she can really sing!! Shame there's no video. But I love this song.

 

 

Other band that was amazing, portuguese R&B-soul band TT Syndicate. Sure you talked about them (you should!). Their 1st record is one of the best things I heard in years!
