Nickinstoke Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Does anyone know anything about the 45cat website? I've found it a great source of label listings, but as of yesterday I get redirected to another site that says the domain name has expired. Anyone know if this site can be found under another name somewhere?
Guest Paul Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I just checked and it's working okay www.45cat.com I use it often, it's a useful database.
Godzilla Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 Col Wolfe is on here. We should all tell him how great a resource it is. 1
John Green Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I just checked and it's working okay www.45cat.com I use it often, it's a useful database. I've just checked it and it isn't working...
Guest Paul Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 That's odd, John, I checked again and it works okay for me.
Guest john s Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 works fine for me - maybe try emptying your browser cache or something vaguely techy like that...?
Godzilla Posted November 13, 2013 Posted November 13, 2013 I've just checked it and it isn't working... Works fine - and you should get on quick while they're giving away all those old 60s uk demos for free. 2
John Green Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Thanks folks, I still can't get to it on www.45cat.com/ using either Opera, Firefox, Chrome or IE10 after clearing out cache etc but too late now. Will have a go tomorrow as it's a great site for info and scans. Cheers
Guest Paul Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Meanwhile it's a good opportunity for us to praise 45cat here because it's very useful site, as Godzilla said, and all the hard work should be applauded.

Steve G Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Some fascinating stuff there on pressing plants used etc, from people that worked in 'em at the time......you could spend a night being a real trainspotter on there looking at label variations etc......Obvioously it doesn't major on rare soul, and has lots missing but it's still building and a very good source of information, largely because mostly they post scans of the actual records.
Guest MrC Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Great resource, and working fine for me. Sounds like some of you are having DNS problems - is everyone who can't get on it using the same broadband supplier?
Nickinstoke Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 Interesting! I've just used my iPhone, with wifi off and mobile data on, and got on the site, so it seems to be a broadband problem. The 45cat Facebook page shows that lots of people are having the same problem.
mshoals Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 It’s indeed a great resource. A few days ago I’ve started to compile a list on there (with lots more to add in the next days) of all (local) master numbers used on Henry Stone’s Florida group of labels: https://www.45cat.com/45_list_view_track.php?li=1353
Guest Funkin Dunc Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 I've been visiting there regularly in recent weeks to ensure that my Blues & Soul project contains all the correct details - it works for me and it's a brilliant resource.

Nickinstoke Posted November 14, 2013 Author Posted November 14, 2013 Working again for me, too. I think this was a scam, where someone unrelated to 45cat was trying to get you to part with money to own the domain name. Whatever, I'm glad to have it back
kevinsoulman Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Works fine - and you should get on quick while they're giving away all those old 60s uk demos for free. where do i look for that bit please kev
Col Wolfe Posted November 14, 2013 Posted November 14, 2013 Col Wolfe is on here. We should all tell him how great a resource it is. I'm just a contributor/moderator over there but am proud to say I was one of the few that helped kickstart the project/undertook beta-testing etc. The site owners, Alan (Dr Doom) and Colin (Orbiting Cat) have done an amazing job I'm sure we all agree and the site goes from strength to strength. Like all good databases, it depends on its members and will continue to improve over time. I would recommend anyone with a passing interest in records (i.e. all of you buggers!) to sign up and submit a few releases that have yet to be added. You don't have to provide images (though that would be a big bonus) but simply adding releases to the database (esp. soul as the genre isn't as well represented as it should be...) would be greatly appreciated. It's a mammoth task which will never be completed but the amount of information offered and knowledge dropped over there is absolutely jaw-dropping. ....and if you don't already know, the doors have recently been opened to other formats via the 45worlds portal: https://www.45worlds.com/ Regards, Col 2
