Coincidentally the copy in my collection has the flip label missing and it’s not the first time I’ve encountered this title without the flip label… we are welcome to theories on this phenomena

Major Lance Everybody Loves A Good Time C/w I Just Can't Help It

Major Lance without question the Northern Soul’s Standard Bearer of the sound! This Chicago Soul Man did more to inspire the pioneers of the NS culture than arguably any other artist.

His UK Columbia release put the British kids in touch with the Chicago Sound which I for one was enthralled with when I first heard this particular song at Nottingham’s Brit Club in 1969 and the same night “Investigate” I like many others of the era became an instant “Major” devotee.

This example in 1969 would have been a dream find, in 2013 it’s eye-candy to an old man.

Gleaming vinyl, perfect labels and the original birth sleeve - memories and British collecting don’t get much better than this..

Bert Bacharach & Hal David considered Lou Johnson as the perfect counterpart to their female star Dionne Warwick, often recording both artists with the same song. Dionne went went onto worldwide fame, Lou Johnson although his talent was equally strong and all his recording with Bacharach & David standout sessions. Lou’s career although peaking with Northern Soul great with Bill Giant, Bernie Baum and Florence Kaye fell away after 1966 ..

A magnificent double window into the legendary talents of Latin Boo-Ga-Loo master Bobby Marin has he reworks the Isley Brothers classic late 60s club-dancer injecting Mambo rhythms, Latin congas and some amazingly laid back saxophone work building a session that slowly but surely explodes into a Jazz masterpiece… almost unrecognizable from the Isley’s original but equally if not more compelling.

Flip it over for the A-side that is equally up-and-at-it defiant Latin Jazzdance groove..

Over 15 years ago I sold one to a guy at the 100 Club - he offered all the loose change in his pocket so was obviously keen and I didn't want to disappoint so accepted £18. This was before Lonnie took off. About 10 years ago I sold about 30 copies to mainly UK dealers in small lots. Another case of Northern Soul defying the rules of supply and demand - the supply goes up and the price goes up...

You could be the owner of a London football club or his girlfriend with a liking for cultural artifacts. You could be a professional footballer who leaves his Porsche in a pond. You could be a retired snooker player reputed to have rooms full of soul records. With the numbers of Chinese, Russian, Indian and African high-rollers increasing, it's not the prices I'm concerned about but a takeover of the whole record market by nations still unaware of USA music collectibles.

"Watch your step" is way better than "no other way" imo, terrible for you maybe. The other one has "poor loser" which is the best side. Fortunately for you northern dudes they threw you a bone on the b-side of "poor loser".
